Meridian sacks Wolves

MERIDIAN — The Meridian Community College Eagles knocked offthe Co-Lin Wolves 12-2 in non-division baseball action Wednesday inan eight-inning contest.

Meridian, the Central Division champion, improves to 34-8 on theseason and South Division runner-up Co-Lin falls to 26-14overall.

Boycee Varnes (1-2) was the losing pitcher with four runsallowed in four innings. Following Varnes to the mound was MatthewFox in the fourth, followed by Jacob Leggett in the sixth andJustin Smith in the eighth.

“We didn’t pitch well,” said Co-Lin head baseball coach KeithCase. “We have some guys hitting the ball well. We still have ahole in the lineup where some guys aren’t. We have put this behindus and try to get better.”

Sophomore catcher Diego Nucete led the Wolves at bat with adouble and a single. Also doubling were Casey Ginn, PatrickWilliams and Jody Britt.

Co-Lin travels to Summit Saturday to face the Southwest Bears ina key South Division doubleheader. The first game begins at 1p.m.
