The host Brookhaven Academy Cougars wrapped up their final gameof the baseball season at home Thursday night with a 14-5 win overthe Bowling Green Buccaneers. Brookhaven Academy honored its seniorplayers last night.

“Our young kids played well,” said BA head coach StephenCooksey. “Our seniors stepped up tonight. Our overall effort wasbetter and I expect big things to come out of our kids and theprogram.”

After two innings, the Cougars held a slim 6-5 lead over theBuccaneers. BA exploded for six runs in the bottom the third for a12-5 lead. In the fifth, the hosts added two more runs to securethe 14-5 win.

Cole Hodges was the winning pitcher with one strikeout and fivewalks in the first two innings. Seth Davis worked the next fourinnings with two walks followed by Paxton King in the final inningwith one strikeout.

Absorbing the loss was Byron Williams with one strikeout and onewalk in 3 2/3 innings. Will Bulloch finished the remainder of thegame with four strikeouts and two walks.

Powering the Cougars at the plate with two doubles and a singlewas Jeremy Winborne. Hunter Posey tripled and singled. Rippingthree singles was Cole Hodges. Eric Terry singled twice. Doublingwere Jonathan Strong and Trey Allred.

“BA played a nice game,” said Bowling Green coach Matt Magee.”We made too many errors and we never were given a chance to comeback. When we needed to get a big out, BA got it and we didn’t.They made the plays and we did not.”

Bowling Green got two singles from Adam Thomas. Ryan Huntdoubled. Trey McDaniel, Matt Sessions, Kyle Smith and Bulloch hitsafely.

Junior varsity

The Cougars knocked off the Buccaneers 10-7.

Ben Mckinney was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts. Alsoseeing action were Jonathan White with two strikeouts and two walksfollowed by Bradley Allred with two strikeouts and one walk.

At bat, Taylor Newman led BA with a two-run home run. T-BoyLynch doubled twice. King doubled and singled. Jarrod Ashleydoubled in two runs. Doubling was Ty Smith. Mckinney, Landon Mageeand Brad Buckles singled.
