Two die in weekend automobile accidents

A Brookhaven man and a teenage girl from McComb died in separateaccidents over the weekend, officials reported Monday.

Albert James Moore, 39, of Brookhaven, died Sunday morning aftera two-vehicle accident on Interstate 55, and Ashley Nicole “BooBoo” Prather, 17, of McComb, died Friday from injuries sustained ina Pike County accident.

Moore died a few hours after his 1987 Mazda truck was hit frombehind by an 18-wheeler on Interstate 55 south Saturday, saidLincoln County Coroner-Medical Examiner Clay McMorris.

“From what the witnesses said, the Mazda pickup was driving realslow in the right lane, heading south,” said McMorris. “One carcame up on him and passed him, but when the 18-wheeler came up onhim, it wasn’t able to stop in time.”

Moore was pronounced dead at King’s Daughters Medical Center at12:25 a.m. Sunday. He suffered internal injuries, said McMorris. Anautopsy will be performed.

The accident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday justsouth of the 44 mile marker.
