Sylvia Jewel Black

Services for Sylvia Jewel Black of Jackson were 4:30 p.m., June5, at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Cedar LawnCemetery.

Mrs. Black, 60, died May 31, 2004. She was born in Chicago,Ill., on Sept. 8, 1943, to Hilda Mae Lewis and Curtis Harding.

She attended Robert S. Abbott Grammar School and WendellPhillips High School. She accepted Christ at an early age atProgressive Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her mother; and her husband, DennisJ.W. Black.

Survivors are her children, Michael Harding of Chicago, CherylBlack of Wesson, Debra Black of Brookhaven, and Patricia Black ofJackson; her sisters, Gloria Ford and Nancy Ellis; her brother,Curtis Harding Jr.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild;numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and a specialfriend, Albert Brothern of Jackson.

Judith “Pinkie” Phillips Rawls

Services for Judith “Pinkie” Phillips Rawls of Bogue Chitto are2 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Henry Moak Cemetery in the Shady Grove community. AnEastern Star service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday at the funeralhome.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5-9:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 9a.m. until 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rawls, 86, died June 6, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Sept. 9, 1917, to Arthur Phillips andGeorgia Lawrence Phillips.

She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Shady GroveBaptist Church. She was a member of Topisaw Eastern Star,Chloe-Holt DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) andBrookhaven Alpha Lions Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Owen MoakRawls; and a son, Ford Rawls.

Survivors are her daughters, Linda Bond of Purvis and ElizabethRawls of Bogue Chitto; her sons, David Rawls of Houston, Texas, andWinston “Pete” Rawls and Gale “Cooter” Moak Rawls, both of BogueChitto; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
