The Lincoln County School District Board of Trustees heard arequest from a 16th Section leaseholder Monday night, but had totable it to finalize some details.

Webb Britt asked the board to consider granting him an exemptionon some land he leases from the district to run cattle. He saidlogging on the land during the past year had prevented him frombeing able to use it, and the exemption would keep him from havingto make a lease payment.

Britt holds 96 acres on two leases on Red Star Road. One ofthose leases was now due, he said.

Stan Long, 16th Section land manager, agreed with Britt’sassessment of the land use and recommended the district grant theexemption completely on one of the leases and prorate thesecond.

Howard Stogner, of the Mississippi Forestry Commission,confirmed the work had interfered with Britt’s cattleoperation.

Board members agreed to grant a total exemption on a 21-acrelease Britt had been unable to use and exempt an equal percentagefrom the amount of the lease of the land in the second lease thatwas unavailable.

Long and Britt agreed that there were about 15 acres of the75-acre lease that had been denied to him because of the district’slogging work.

The request was tabled until the next meeting to allow CherylShelby, the district’s business manager, time to figure the amountof money to exempt from the second lease.

The board also moved its next meeting to July 6 at 5:30 p.m.because of the Independence Day holiday, which is celebrated onMonday, July 5, this year.
