Two fired in sexual harassment case

Lincoln County Sheriff Wiley Calcote said Tuesday that two jailemployees named in a sexual harassment lawsuit have beenterminated.

Bogue Chitto resident Stancie Jordan Roberts filed the federallawsuit Friday. In the complaint, which presents only one side of alegal argument, she alleges she was sexually harassed by AssistantJail Warden Joe Price and Jailer/Transport Officer Andrew Grahamduring and after her incarceration from March 2004 to June2004.

Calcote and Investigator Lance Falvey said authorities began animmediate investigation after the allegations surfaced around noonon Saturday, June 26.

Falvey said Price and Graham were suspended pending theinvestigation. Once the investigation reached a certain pointaround the middle of last week, the two men were terminated, hesaid.

“There are certain aspects of the investigation that are stillongoing,” Falvey said.

Falvey said the allegations made in the lawsuit are serious andwere dealt with in a serious fashion. The internal investigationrevealed that “absolutely” no other sheriff’s department or jailemployee was involved in any way with the incidents referred to inthe lawsuit, he said.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated in any way, form orfashion,” Falvey said.

Falvey did not say if Price or Graham had any response to theirterminations. He said that was part of the ongoinginvestigation.

When contacted later Tuesday, Price had no comment.

Graham said he had not had a chance to speak with Calcote aboutthe situation or the lawsuit. He asserted he was innocent untilproven guilty.

“I’m ready to go to court against the allegations,” Grahamsaid.

In addition to Price and Graham, named defendants in the lawsuitinclude Lincoln County, the sheriff’s department and Calcote.Calcote was cited for an alleged failure “to properly train,exercise control over and supervise” the defendants.

Calcote said Tuesday afternoon he had yet to see a notice of anintent to file a lawsuit. He said he had not been served with acopy of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit seeks over $2 million in compensatory damages,attorneys’ fees and any other relief deemed appropriate by thecourt.
