Wesson advances, plays McComb tonight

NATCHEZ — The Wesson all-stars overcame Natchez 9-8 Saturdaynight in the second round of the Dixie Youth Baseball Major 11sDistrict 6 Tournament at Duncan Park. On Friday night Wessonwhipped the Brookhaven Americans 11-1.

“We are in good shape,” said Wesson coach Jerry Hood. “All ofour pitchers are available.”

Wesson plays McComb tonight at 8 in a battle of unbeatenteams.

Wesson 11, American Americans 1

Mac Lowery pitched the victory, allowing no hits in 2 innings ofwork. He struck out 3 batters and walked 1. Hunter Hood hurled thelast 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

Offensively, Wesson was led by second baseman Alex Goza who went2-for-2. Rightfielder Kyle Cross tripled and singled. CatcherHunter Hood doubled and singled. Shortstop Matt Smith also had 2his.

Collecting single hits for Wesson were Gib Britt, Gage Wilson,Patrick Boone and Tyson Wesley.

The Americans got a double from Cody White. Joel Alexander wasthe losing pitcher.

Wesson 9, Natchez 8

Wesson rallied for 3 runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-6lead over Natchez.

Matt Smith pitched the last 2 innings and got the win. Gib Brittstarted for Wesson and went 2 innings. He gave up 2 hits, struckout 1 and walked none.

Mac Lowery replaced Britt in the third inning. In 2 innings,Lowery allowed 4 hits and 4 runs, striking out 2 and walkingnone.

Daniel Guedon was the losing pitcher, tossing the final 2frames.

At the plate, Wesson leftfielder Gage Wilson went 3-for-3,including a 3-run double in the sixth. Smith went 2 for 3 with adouble. Hunter Hood also had 2 hits. Brandon Allen, Kyle Cross,Lowery, Boone, Jeremy Newman and Austin Hudson singled.

Natchez scored twice in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Goddardled the way with 2 singles. Rusty Blackwell doubled. Heath Whitesingled twice.
