Natchez wins Dixie Boys 14s

NATCHEZ — Riding a 5-run first-inning surge, the Natchezall-stars eliminated Brookhaven 12-2 Monday night in the Dixie BoysDistrict Four 14s Tournament. Natchez advances to the statetournament in Hattiesburg later this month.
“There were several close plays in the first inning that allwent against us,” said Brookhaven coach Perry Brown. “Once Natchezgot momentum, they played well.
“I was very pleased with the way our team responded underadverse circumstances,” Brown added. “They played hard to the endand that speaks well of their character.”
Winning pitcher Dustin Carroll struck out 9 batters and walked 3in the 6-inning game. Natchez built a 10-0 lead after 3innings.
Losing hurler Trent Rutland struck out 2 batters and walked 4.Brookhaven was limited to just 2 hits, a double by Rutland and asingle by Seth Cliburn.
Natchez got a double from Carroll. McDonough had 2 hits.
