8 juveniles charged in scooter theft

Eight juveniles were arrested Tuesday night on theft chargesafter a resident reported a robbery to police, an officialsaid.

Six of the juveniles have been charged with petty larceny andtwo with possession of stolen property, said Brookhaven PoliceDepartment Assistant Chief Nolan Jones. All of the juveniles are intheir mid-teens.

“We got a complaint from a resident on South Jackson Streetstating that someone had taken a Power Rider, an electric scooter,around 8:18 p.m.,” he said.

According to Jones, witnesses at the residence saw the juvenilesenter a carport and storage shed at the 328 S. Jackson St. home.They left with the scooter and damaged two others.

The suspects were followed by two people from the residence.

“They flagged the officer down and told him where they went,”Jones said.

Jones said he was not aware of any confrontation involving thesuspects.

“I haven’t heard anything about a scuffle,” he said. “There wasno altercation that I could find.”
