Lawrence Co. girls clip Clinton

MONTICELLO — The Lawrence County Lady Cougars swept a girlsslowpitch softball doubleheader from the Clinton Lady ArrowsTuesday night. Lawrence won the opener 8-3 and came back in theninth inning to post an 8-7 victory.

In the first game, Lawrence jumped on Clinton 2-0 in the firstinning. The Lady Cougars pushed their lead to 8-1 in the second.The Lady Arrows added two runs in the top of the sixth to cut thedeficit to 8-3.

Kaila Givens posted the win and Miranda Anderson absorbed theloss. Both teams collected 10 hits apiece. The Lady Arrowscommitted four errors to Lawrence’s three.

The Lady Cougars, coached by Tarvey Ward, got two hits each fromJessica Johnson, Jasmine Courtney and Givens. Ellie Fairburn,Maygan McCloud, Emily Smith and Ryane Garrett hit safely.

Lauren Goolsby paced the Lady Arrows with 3 hits. Cori White andPatti Collins added two hits apiece.

Lawrence 8, Collins 7

The Lady Cougars led 4-3 after the first inning. The Lady Arrowsscored four runs for a 7-4 lead going in to the bottom of thefifth.

Lawrence scored two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-6and one run in the sixth to tie the game at 7-all.

Ward played junior varsity for the first five inning theninserted varsity players for the final innings.

Givens (4-2) was the winning pitcher and Miranda Anderson (3-5)was the loser.

The Lady Cougars outhit the Lady Arrows 17-8. Lawrence led withsix errors to the visitors five.

Powering Lawrence with four hits was Lorrin Baker. Kate Davisdrilled three hits. Collecting two hits each were Sonni Smith andCourtney. Singling were Ryane Garrett, Cori Walker, Shaina Starks,Ryane Garrett, Tiera Townsend and Brittany Collins.

Clinton got a double and two singles from Goolsby. Smashing atriple and a double was Collins.
