Graveside services for Oredus Duke Williams of Bolton are 2p.m., Monday, Aug. 30, at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
Visitation was at 11 a.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Home inJackson.
Mrs. Williams, 89, died Aug. 25, 2004, at her home. She was bornin Smith County to Albert M. Duke and Eula Lee Burgess Duke.
She moved to Hinds County at age 11 and had been a resident for78 years. She will be remembered throughout the community for hertalent in gardening, cooking and sewing. She was a wonderful cookand loved to teach and share her recipes with friends and family.She was a godly woman and a faithful member of Edwards MethodistChurch, were she served on several of the church committees. Shewas highly thought of and was a mentor for many of the youngerwomen and children in her church family and her community.
She was retired from Maison Weiss in 1977 and has many friendsthroughout the state. She was very fond of the outdoors, a uniquewoman who loved animals. She raised chickens and quail and wasalways willing to help a neighbor get started with raising theirown chickens.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alfred”Orlan” Williams; and her eight siblings.
Survivors are her two daughters, Peggy Williams Hunt and herhusband, Doyce “Doc”, of Olive Branch, and Shirley Williams Bruceand her husband, Edward “Yogi”, of Brookhaven; her son, ThomasOrlan Williams and his wife, Deborah, of Clarksville, Tenn.; 19grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of friends andfamily; and her companion, her American Bulldog, Prince.
