GOODMAN — The Glenn Davis era at Copiah-Lincoln CommunityCollege got off to a rousing start Thursday night at Ras BranchStadium at Holmes Community College.

Behind a punishing rushing attack, the Wolves ran away with28-10 win over the Bulldogs in the season opener for bothteams.

Co-Lin travels to Northeast Thursday while Holmes goes to JonesCounty Saturday night.

“We shot ourselves in the foot,” said veteran Bulldog head coachHugh Shurden following the game. “Co-Lin took advantage of themistakes we made and capitalized on them.”

The Wolves (1-0) pounded out 184 yards on the ground, led byMendenhall native Julius Robinson’s 17 rushes for 120 yards. Hisinitial carry of the season went for 25 yards and it was a sign ofthings to come.

The Bulldogs drew first blood with 33 seconds left in the firstquarter on a 4-yard touchdown run by freshmen runningback PhelanGray. Matt Garren tacked on the PAT for a 7-0 Holmes lead.

Co-Lin bounced back 5 minutes later to tie the game at 7-7.Charles McCrae, a 5-foot-11, 172-pound freshmen from Hollywood,Fla., scored on a 7-yard scoring burst. Chris Blackwell providedthe PAT kick.

After several possession exchanges, the Wolves stuck paydirtonce more. This time through the air as quarterback Beau Billeckfound wideout Daryl Johnson in the back of the endzone for atouchdown with 3:36 left in the first half. Blackwell’s kick wassuccessful and gave Davis’s squad a 14-7 advantage.

“This is a different Co-Lin team than we have played in thepast,” added Shurden. “They ran the ball extremely well.”

Robinson garnered another Wolfpack score with 1:01 left in thefirst half on a 1-yard plunge. Blackwell’s kick was good and Co-Linauthored a 21-7 lead at the intermission.

“We ran the ball ran tonight,” said Davis. “Our team showed alot of character tonight. Our passing will get better.”

The Wolfpack defense got into the scoring at the 10:38 mark ofthe third period. Lemoine Robinson hit Bulldog runningback KalvinSmith with an earth-shattering hit, causing Smith to fumble. BobbyColvin alertly picked up the loose ball and raced 20 yards to theendzone. Blackwell kick the extra point and made the score28-7.

Holmes closed out the scoring with a 31-yard field goal byGarren as the third quarter came to a close.

“We wanted to focus on running the football,” added Davis. “Wewanted to control the football.”

On offense, Billeck was 6-for-12 for 73 yards and a touchdownpass. Johnson caught 4 passes for 60 yards and B. J. Womack 13yards on 2 receptions.
