Darlene Alexander

Services for Darlene Alexander of Jayess were 2 p.m. Monday,Sept. 6 at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Jayess with burial in thechurch cemetery. Community Funeral Services was in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Alexander, 60, died Sept. 2, 2004, at her residence. Shewas born in Eugene, Ore., on July 1, 1944, to Claude O. Kimball andDerwinna Brown.

She was a respiratory therapist at Lawrence County Hospital. Shewas a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her husband, Jesse Alexander of Jayess; herdaughter, Wanda Miller of Monticello; her son, Phillip Alexander ofMonticello; her sister, Darlene B. Alexander of Anaheim, Calif.;her brothers, Vern Bauch of Bend, Ore., and Gordon Bauch of Yuma,Ariz.; and five grandchildren.

Donald O’Larey Estes

Services for Donald O’Larey Estes of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.Wednesday, Sept. 8 at First United Methodist Church with burial inRiverwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Tom Hollowell will officiate.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Homeand Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Estes, 65, died Sept. 6, 2004, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center. He was born in Tomball, Texas, on Oct. 14, 1938, toReo Estes and Gladis Estes Fender.

Mr. Estes was an exceptional athlete who lettered five yearswith the Brookhaven High School football team and was a member ofthe state championship track team. He was a prep All-Americanfootball player who was highly recruited by several schools in theSEC and went on to play at Louisiana State University during thelate 50’s and early 60’s. He was part of the 1961 SoutheasternConference Championship team, played in the Orange Bowl and CottonBowl. He played professional football with the St. Louis Cardinals,the Canadian League and then with the San Diego Chargers.

Mr. Estes returned to Brookhaven in 1971 to establish, with hiswife, a business, Estes Glass Inc., which he managed until 1998. Hewas active in community affairs, serving as president of theBrookhaven Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, a longtime member ofthe Kiwanis Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and had servedon the board of the National Glass Association. As a member ofFirst United Methodist Church, he served his church in manycapacities. He had recently been appointed to fill a term asalderman for the City of Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepfather, WardFender; and a sister, Delores Estes.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley Ortego Estes; his daughters,Leah Miller and her husband, Al, of Lafayette, La., and Holly EstesMcCreary and her husband, Ken, of Brandon; his sons, Bryan Estesand his wife, Cheryl Richardson Estes, of Lafayette, and Jay Estesand his wife, Cheri Bush Estes, of Petal; his grandchildren,Kindel, Brenton and Amber Collinsworth, Scoti and Mister Estes,Parker and Peyton Estes, and Sam, Abby and Mary Kate McCreary; hissisters, Juanita James, and her husband Glynn, of Brookhaven, andDoris Webb, and her husband, Bill, of Tomball; his brothers, ReoEstes Jr. and his wife, Dura, of Hempstead, Texas, and Warren Estesand his wife, Sandra, of Bay Springs; a dear friend and Christianbrother, Paul Crawford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the Lost and Found Sunday schoolclass.

Honorary pallbearers will be the mayor and aldermen of the cityof Brookhaven and members of the Kiwanis Club.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church MemorialFund, Brookhaven Beautiful or King’s Daughters Medical CenterFoundation.

Ellen Felice Johnson “Mimi” Kane

Services for Ellen Felice Johnson “Mimi” Kane of Ridgefield,Conn., are 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at St. Francis of AssisiChurch in Brookhaven. Jowdy Kane Funeral Home in Danbury, Conn., isin charge of arrangements.

Drusie Trass

Services for Drusie Trass of Brookhaven are 1:30 p.m. Thursday,Sept. 9 at Friendship M.B. Church with burial in the churchcemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon until 5 p.m. at R.E. TylerFuneral Home.

Mrs. Trass, 96, died Sept. 1, 2004, at Central MississippiMedical Center in Jackson. She was born in Hazlehurst on Oct. 24,1907, to Will Hutchins and Susqueenia Ellis Hutchins.

She was a retired educator in Lawrence, Franklin and Lincolncounties. She attended Alcorn State University in Lorman. She was amember of the Mother Board, Missionary Society, a Capella choir andserved as Sunday School teacher, church clerk and treasurer atFriendship M.B. Church. She was a member of the SPARKLE Club atBethel A.M.E. Church and a member of the Brookhaven Chapter ofAARP.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Henry R.Trass Sr.; two daughters, Thelma Trass Williams and Gladys TrassDillon; three sons, Henry Trass Jr., Major Trass and Andrew Trass;and three siblings.

Survivors are her daughters, Edyce Trass Lawrence of OliveBranch, Theresa Trass Colston of Cleveland, Oh., Dr. Eunice TrassSmith of Jackson and Dr. Phyllis Trass Hammond of Ridgeland; hersons, Eddie Trass of Inglewood Calif., Raymond Trass of Inglewood,Thomas Trass of Memphis, Tenn., and Milton Trass of Brookhaven; hersister, Millie Hutchins Green of Chicago, Ill.; 25 grandchildren;48 great grandchildren; 53 great great grandchildren; and twonieces, Ruby Bowman of Chicago, and Elizabeth Frisby of Black Jack,Mo.
