Cougars crush Amite Rebels

The Brookhaven Academy Cougar winning streak improved to 4-0following Friday night’s 61-20 triumph over the Amite School CenterRebels at Cougar Field.
Including the final wins of the 2003 season, the Cougars areriding an eight-game winning streak.
BA head coach Ray Ishee was proud of his team’s victory. He wasable to substitute early as the Cougars led 55-12 at halftime.
“I thought we did a good job on offense executing,” saidishee.”We put the pressure on them early. We knew that they weresuspect. They were young and didn’t have the numbers.”
Powering the BA offense was sophomore quarterback Price Sessumswho completed 6 of 9 passes for 185 yards, including fivetouchdowns and was intercepted once.
Sessums’ leading receivers was Cole Hodges with three receptionsfor 109 yards and three TDs. Stewart Sessums made two catches for30 yards and a TD. Making one catch for 46 yards was CameronAchord.
The BA running game was sparked by Chris Falvey with nine rushesfor 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Rushing for 59 yards on fourcarries was Hodges.
The Cougars exploded from the start in the first quarter for a35-0 lead over the Rebels. Falvey scored the first touchdown on atwo-yard run, Hodges caught a 52-yard pass from Sessums for a TD,Stephen Covington returned a fumble 32 yards for a score, Sessumsconnected to Hodges again for a 32-yard touchdown and Falvey scoredanother TD from two yards out.
Hodges made 5-of-8 extra point kicks on the night. Sessums ranfor a two-point conversion.
ASC came back to get on the score early in the second quarter ona 57-yard burst by Kevin Aldridge. The PAT kick failed and theRebels trailed the Cougars 35-6.
On the following kickoff, BA’s Stewart Sessums returned thekickoff 79 yards for a quick six points and a 42-6 lead.
ASC came back to cut the deficit to 42-12 on a 23 yards passfrom Ben Womack to Barry Van Norman. The PAT kick failed.
The Cougars answered when Price Sessums connected to StewartSessums for a 27-yard score and a 48-12 lead.
Aldridge scored on a 46-yard TD to trim the Rebels deficit48-20.
Before the end of the second quarter, Achord caught a 46-yardpass from Sessums for the 55-12 lead at the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Rebels scored theirfinal TD of the game on a 29-yard run by Aldridge to cut theCougars lead to 55-20.
BA’s final TD came on a 32-yard pass-play from Sessums toHodges.
Defensively, Dusty Bratton and Aaron Douglasled the Cougars with eight tackles apiece.
“I thought out kids did a good jog executing,” added Ishee. “Wehave to continue geting better.”
BA travels to Woodville Friday night to face the WilkinsonCounty Christian Academy Rams in a non-division test. Game time is7 p.m.
