St. Andrew’s turns over Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO — The Class 2A St. Andrew’s Saints took advantageof some turnovers Friday night to beat the Class 1A Bogue ChittoBobcats 56-21 at Troy Smith Field.

“We played good in the first half,” said Bogue Chitto head coachGareth Sartin. “In the second half, we gave up touchdowns to theirspecial teams. We had missed tackles on their kickoff return forTDs and punt return plays for TDs. We must practice and getbetter.”

Bogue Chitto drew first blood and went up 7-0 at the 4:20 markin the first quarter on a 25-yard burst by Corey Washington and anextra-point kick by Erik Allen.

The Saints’ Bradford Blackmon scored a 64-yard run and an18-yard run for two touchdowns and a 14-7 lead at the end of thequarter. Martin Edwards kicked a perfect eight extra points in thegame.

The Bobcats came out in the second quarter and cut the deficitto 14-12 following a 20-yard TD run by Carmichael and PAT kick with14:42 left until halftime.

With 4:42 left in the first half, Blackmon scored his fourth TDfor the Saints and pushed their lead to 21-14.

“Bogue Chitto played well the first half,” said St. Andrew’shead coach David Bradberry. “But Bradforth Blackmon made some bigplays for us. Bogue Chitto has some talented guys. Both teams weretired while the game progressed because of the heat. But my guysplayed well. I’m proud of them.”

In the third quarter, Blackmon continued to lead the St.Andrew’s running game, scoring a one-yard TD and returning puntsfor 80 yards and 72-yards for two more scores and a 42-12 lead overBogue Chitto.

The Bobcats answered at the 3:57 mark when Dontae Ratcliffreturned a kickoff 70 yards for the TD and cut the deficit to42-21.

Alan Landrum scored from seven-yards out for St. Andrew’s topush the lead back to 49-21 as the third quarter ended

Grey McMillin hit Drake on a 43-yard pass for the Saints’ finaltouchdown of the game with 10:16 remaining.

Washington led the Bobcats with 14 carries for 72 yards.Ratcliff finished with 41 yards on nine rushes. Lyvanda Carmichaelfollowed with seven rushes for 33 yards.

Ratcliff completed 2 of 5 passes for 37 yards. Lange Portercaught both passes.

Defensively, Robert Bullock and Robert Andersondirected Bogue Chitto with nine tackles apiece. Making seven stopswas Matt Boone. Ratcliff intercepted a pass and retuned it 11yards.

Bogue Chitto (0-3) visits Mize for a Region 4-1A test Fridaynight. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
