Bobcats outscore W. Lincoln

The visiting Bogue Chitto Bobcats held off a late rally by theWest Lincoln Bears to escape Perry Miller Field Friday night with a34-25 Region 4-1A win. Bogue Chitto improved to 2-2 in the regionand 2-4 on the season. West Lincoln falls to 0-6 overall and 0-4 inregion play.
“This was an ugly win,” said Bogue Chitto head coach GarethSartin. “But it’s good to get the win.
“West Lincoln did a good job on offense and defense. We had ourhands full,” Sartin added. “My kids did what they had to do to getthe win. Coach Brooks Burns had his team ready to play.”
Powering the Bobcats with 20 carries for 192 yards and 2touchdowns was Corey Washington. Quarterback Dantae Ratcliff rushedthe football 11 times for 95 yards and a pair of TDs.
“We are not a come-from-behind football team,” said WestLincoln’s Coach Burns. “Darnell Sampson had his best game all yeartonight offensively. We fought hard. We did not take advantage oftheir turnovers. We gave up a couple of big plays.”
Sampson directed the Bears with 28 carries for 177 yards and 3touchdowns.
Bogue Chitto struck in the first quarter on a 4-yard run byWashington for a 6-0 lead following a blocked PAT kick with 21seconds left.
The Bobcats went ahead 14-0 at the 3:17 mark in the secondquarter on a 40-yard pass play from Ratcliff to Lange Porter.Washington ran the 2-point conversion.
At the 1:13 mark, Sampson broke loose for a 6-yard touchdown runand Adam Case kicked the PAT for the Bears. That cut the deficit to14-7.
On the kickoff, Washington took the football and ran it back 80yards for the TD with 1:01 left until halftime. The PAT kick failedas Bogue Chitto held a 20-7 lead over West Lincoln.
The Bobcats pushed their lead to 26-7 on a 25-yard run byRatcliff with 9:57 left in the third quarter. The 2-pointconversion pass failed.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears came out and scored at the11:51 mark on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Aaron McCaffery toDaniel Lofton. The kick failed and West Lincoln trailed 26-13.
Bogue Chitto answered with its final TD of the game at the 9:51mark on a 1-yard burst by Ratcliff. Donald Addison caught the2-point conversion pass from Ratcliff to push the lead to34-13.
In the final seven minutes of the game, the Bears added twotouchdowns. Sampson scored a touchdown on a 28-yard run and passedto Kevin King for a 70-yard TD. Both extra point attemptsfailed.
Defensively, the Bears were led by Patrick Smith with 7tackles. Making 6 tackles and 2 sacks was Phillip Jarancik. CaseyRoberts collected 6 tackles and a sack. Recovering a fumble wasRobert Bullock.
Washington and Lyvanda Carmichael led the Bobcats with12 tackles apiece. Making 10 stops was Porter. C.J. Tate collected9 tackles. Finishing with 7 tackles was Richard Williams. DanielLofton and Mark Smith recovered a fumble.
“We must continue to get better on defense,” addedSartin. “We gave up too many big plays on defense against WestLincoln trickery. We showed character to get first downs when weneeded.”
West Lincoln entertains Salem for homecoming and BogueChitto visits Dexter in Friday night region action.
