Venue changes, but mission stays the same

Walkers will be out in force Saturday morning to raise money tohelp make wishes come true for ill children in the area.
The Brookhaven Walk For Wishes program kicks off Saturday at 8a.m. at the State Room. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The event,initially scheduled for the Exchange Club Park, was moved becauseof the weather.
Organizers are looking for a good day for the event to raisemoney for the Make A Wish Foundation.
The event’s goal is $25,000, which would be enough to grantwishes for five children with life-threatening medical conditions.The average cost for granting a wish is $5,000.
“Any money that is put in will stay here in your community,”said Jane Walsh, the state Make-A-Wish Foundation developmentcoordinator.
Walk teams have been busy in recent weeks working on theirfund-raising efforts.
Team captains can turn in money raised so far Friday from 4-6p.m. at the State Room. Captains can also pick up T-shirts for teammembers who have raised $50 or more.
Organizers said the event will go on rain or shine. In the eventof rain, teams will meet at the club pavilion for prizes andfestivities.
