Jackets rush past BA Cougars

A large crowd of blue and white-clad fans braved cooltemperatures and rain Friday night to support the BA Cougars intheir bid for an upset win over the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets. Butthe visitors from Amite, La., did not oblige.

The Yellow Jackets used their lethal rushing attack to pile up251 yards on the ground en route to a 31-20 victory over theCougars. BA dropped to 7-1(3-1) on the year. Oak Forest improved to7-1 and 4-0.

“I’m not disappointed at all with the way our kids played,” saidBA Coach Ray Ishee. “They played their hearts out, and the gamecame down to whoever caught the breaks. Oak Forest caught thebreaks and was able to win the ball game.”

BA was able to put the first points on the scoreboard with 55seconds remaining in the first quarter when sophomore quarterbackPrice Sessums ran it in from 5 yards out. Brad Buckles added thePAT and BA lead 7-0 after one quarter.

Oak Forest answered back at the 8:41 mark in the second whenCody Walker scored on a 10-yard run. After the PAT by MarkThompson, the score was tied at 7-7.

The Yellow Jackets were able to add another score with 1:45remaining in the first half when Walker dove in from three yardsout. The extra point failed as Oak Forest took the lead 13-7.

It took only 59 seconds for BA to answer when Sessums hit hisbrother Stewart Sessums on a 32-yard pass down the sideline.Buckles added the extra point and Brookhaven carried a 14-13 leadinto the locker rooms.

Oak Forest was able to strike first in the second half whenDakota Fitzgerald intercepted a Sessums pass and returned it 32yards for the touchdown. After the conversion failed, the YellowJackets led 19-14.

Brookhaven answered when Price Sessums hit Stewart Sessums againon a 15-yard pass play with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter.Brookhaven led 20-19.

Oak Forest scored again with 7:13 remaining in the game. TaylorFinch received a 6 yard pass from Drew Holland as the YellowJackets took the lead 25-20.

Brookhaven’s bid for a comeback ended at the 5:37 mark when RyanSeal picked up a BA fumble and ran 20 yards for the touchdown. TheJackets pushed their lead to 31-20.

Brookhaven was led by quarterback Price Sessums who completed11-21 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. He also had twointerceptions. On the ground, Sessums rushed the ball 18 times for46 yards and a touchdown.

Stewart Sessums led all receivers with nine catches for 169yards and two touchdowns.

Oak Forest was led by quarterback Drew Holland who had 83 yardson 15 carries and one touchdown.

Brookhaven’s defense was led by Wesley Taylor who made 12tackles and a fumble recovery. Dusty Bratton and Chris Falvey made11 stops a piece. Cameron Achord had an interception.

Brookhaven travels to Centreville Academy Friday night inanother big District 4-AA test. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
