BC eliminates Ethel

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats are on their wayto the South State semifinals of the Class 1A slowpitch softballplayoffs after winning two straight games from the Ethel LadyTigers Tuesday night on Stan Long Field.

Bogue Chitto whipped Ethel 12-0 in the first game and 16-4 inthe second game of the best-of-three series. Ethel finishes theseason with an 18-5 record.

The 23-8 Lady Bobcats visit the West Lincoln Lady BearsSaturday. The first game starts at 1 p.m.

“My girls did a great job,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “They hit the ball well and played good defense. Nowmoving to the third round, it will get tougher and tougher. If mygirls keep playing hard, we will do good.”

Bogue Chitto 12, Ethel 0

In the first game, Latoya Braxton posted the shutout win withtwo strikeouts and six walks. Losing hurler Dana Breazeale walkedthree.

Powering the Lady Bobcats with a home run and a triple wasCandace Braxton. Chelsey Miller, Candace Avants and Meleah Brownbelted two hits apiece. Singling were Haley Roberts, Dori Hall andKayla Smith.

Bogue Chitto outhit Ethel 11-4 at the plate.

Ethel was led by Courtney Richmon’s pair of singles. KayciHutchinson and Aimee Baugh hit safely.

Bogue Chitto 16, Ethel 4

Bogue Chitto and Ethel were tied 3-3 in the first frame. TheLady Bobcats scored four runs in the second inning and five in thethird for a 12-3 lead.

Latoya Braxton powered the Lady Bobcats with a home run and twosingles. Drilling a homer and a single were Brown and CandaceBraxton. Miller smashed three singles. Collecting two singles eachwere Kayla Smith, Brynna Wallace and Roberts. Hall singled.

Miller posted the win with five walks. Breazeale took the losswith three walks.

Bogue Chitto outhit Ethel 17-5.

Pacing the Lady Tigers with a pair of singles was JenniferParker. Breazeale, Richmond and Hutchinson hit safely.

“Bogue Chitto was the better team,” said Ethel coach ChrisTerry. “We made errors in the first and second game. We did notgive up. We had a lot to be proud of especially winning thedivision.

“Bogue Chitto has a very good team. They have a lot to be proudof. We can only get better and improve for next season.”
