Bobcats get late win

SALEM — Bogue Chitto quarterback Dantae Ratcliff scored on athree-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds left in the game to pullout a huge 25-24 Region 4-1A win over the Salem Wildcats Fridaynight. The game-winning TD came following 13 plays and 62yards.

The Bobcats (4-4, 4-2) trailed the Wildcats 24-12 with 7:57 leftin the fourth quarter. Cory Washington broke loose for a three-yardTD plunge and Erick Allen kicked the PAT to cut the deficit to sixpoints, 25-19.

Salem falls to 4-2 in the region and 5-3 on the season.

“I was very pleased with our effort,” said Bogue Chitto headcoach Gareth Sartin whose Bobcas have won four straight games. “Weshowed how much we have grown.

Bogue Chitto collected 13 first downs and finished the game with280 yards total offense. The Bobcats rushed the football 28 timesfor 156 yards and passed for 144 more.

Salem kicked a field goal in the second quarter for a brief 3-0lead over Bogue Chitto. Ratcliff returned the kickoff 75 yards forthe touchdown that put the visitors on top 6-3.

Before the end of the second quarter, the Wildcats came backwith a TD to take a 0-6 lead in at the half.

Salem came out in the third quarter for a quick touchdown andpushed the Wildcats’ lead to 17-6.

Washington directed the Bobcats running game with 18 rushes for76 yards. Ratcliff followed with 80 yards on 10 carries.

In the air, Ratcliff completed 10 of 15 passes for 144 yards andwas intercepted once. Lange Porter led the receivers with sevencatches for 78 yards. Making two catches for 20 yards was StevenSnow. Marion Addison had one catch for 13 yards.

Defensively, Porter and Washington directedBogue Chitto with 10 tackles apiece. Making seven stops was LyvandaCarmichael. Richard Williams made six tackles followed by Ratcliffwith five. Porter and Ratcliff recovered a fumble. CarmichaelIntercepted a pass.

Bogue Chitto returns home Friday night to face the Mt. OlivePirates in another key region game. Mt. Olive was beaten 49-24Thursday night by Mize. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
