Services for Richard Riley “Dick” Alworth of Del Mar, Calif.,were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at El Camino Memorial in San Diego,Calif.
Mr. Alworth, 94, died in his sleep Oct. 9, 2004, at Casa Palmerain Del Mar. He was born Nov. 27, 1910, in Bartlesville, Okla.
He was a retired regional superintendent for Humble Oil(ExxonMobil) for 37 years. He graduated high school in Ranger,Texas, then attended two years of college at OklahomaUniversity.
He started working part-time for Humble Oil at age 17 as a daylaborer. He later was superintendent for offshore drilling in GrandIsle, La. He then was sent to Brookhaven and then to Hobbs, N.M.,where he retired. He returned for two years to again direct theoffshore operation. He and his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Alworth,retired to Del Mar where he enjoyed both his passion for readingand golf, at which he had a three handicap. Mr. Alworth was amember in good standing of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in NewOrleans, where he had attained his 32nd-degree standing.
A widower for nine years, he leaves two children, Ann Lauman andher husband, Gerry, of Jackson, and Lance Alworth and his wife,Laura, of Del Mar; his grandchildren, Mike Rick, Gerryann, LanceJr., Kelly and Rian; and six great-grandchildren, Jax, Mandy,Riley, Joe, Brian and Nino, with another on the way.
