BA Cougars entertain Natchez Trinity

Brookhaven Academy returns to the friendly confines of CougarField Friday night to entertain Natchez Trinity Episcopal Schoolfor their final District 4-AA game of the regular season. The gamekicks off at 7 p.m.

In other academy action, Parklane entertains PresbyterianChristian for homecoming, Copiah hosts Prairie View and Union wrapsup its season on the road at Franklin, La.

The Cougars, coached by Ray Ishee, are coming off back-to-backdistrict losses to No. 2 Oak Forest (two weeks ago) and No. 1Centreville Academy (last Friday).

BA (7-2, 3-2) dropped to No. 3 in the district race followinglast Friday’s 48-34 loss to Centreville.

Centreville (8-1, 5-0) battles Oak Forest (8-1, 5-0) Friday todetermine first and second place. Oak Forest put away district foeColumbia Academy 37-12 last Friday. Columbia (4-3) is fourth in thestandings with a 2-3 worksheet. Only the top two district teams inthe MPSA advance to the state playoffs.

Trinity (5-4, 2-3) is coming off a 28-23 district win overBowling Green last Friday.

“They (Trinity) look pretty good,” said BA head coach Ray Ishee.”Steven Ridley (6-1, 205) has good speed and is a good runningback.They spread it (football) out and throw it. They run the option.They’ll try to get the ball to Ridley on the corner.”

Trinity also is aggressive on defense according to Ishee.

“They blitz on defense,” added Ishee. “They live by the blitz.They bring a lot of folks. We have to do a good job blocking upfront for Price (Sessums).

“It going to be a real good football game.”

Cougar quarterback Price Sessums completed 17 of 29 passes for281 yards and a touchdown in the loss at Centreville. Sessums, asophomore, carried the football seven times for 78 yards and twoTDs.

Pacing the BA receivers with 11 catches for 177 yards and atouchdown was Cameron Achord.

Defensively, Dusty Bratton directed the Cougars with 12 tackles.Achord made10 stops and blocked an extra point.

Parklane, coached by Charlie Newlon, upset Hillcrest Christian42-35 in double overtime last Friday in a key District 2-AAA(Division 1) matchup. The McComb-based Pioneers ( 5-3, 2-3)entertain Presbyterian Christian for homecoming Friday.

Presbyterian Christian (2-7, 1-4) fell to Lamar School 35-14last Friday.

Copiah, Coached by Mitch Mitchell, is looking for its fourthwin-in-a-row Friday when his Gallman-based Colonels host PrairieView in a District 3-AA matchup. Copiah smashed Silliman Institute56-3 and Prairie View crushed Riverfield (La.) 30-7 in lastFriday’s games.

In the win over Silliman last Friday, Price Henley ran theColonel offense. Henley scored four touchdowns, rushed the football16 times for 136 yards yards and kicked a 33-yard field goal. Ondefense, he intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD.

On defense, Copiah was led by Danny Pyles with six tackles.

Union, coached by Carl Griffith, fell to Prentiss Christian46-14 last Friday. The Georgetown-based Saints, 1-7 on the seasonand 0-3 in District 1-6A action, wrap up their season at Franklin,La..

Franklin, La., (2-7, 0-5) fell to River Oakes 48-6 lastweek.
