Stringer passes W. Lincoln

STRINGER — The Stringer Red Devils came back in the second halfto beat the West Lincoln Bears 37-26 in Region 4-1A football actionFriday night. West Lincoln led Stringer 26-23 early in the thirdquarter.

“We could have beat them,” said West Lincoln head coach BrooksBurns. “Stringer’s passing game hurt us the most.”

Scoring three of West Lincoln’s four touchdowns was freshmantailback Darnell Sampson who rushed the football 17 times for 124yards. Sampson threw a 60-yard halfback pass to Kevin King foranother TD. Sampson also ran for a two-point conversion.

Sampson scored his first two touchdowns in the opening quarter.The first came on a 3-yard run. He also scored on a 60-yard fumblerecovery return and then ran the two-point conversion.

In the second quarter, Sampson hit King for the TD.

Sampson scored the Bears’ final touchdown at the start of thethird quarter on a 4-yard run.

“We didn’t play well on defense in the first half,” statedBurns. “They picked it up in the second half.”

On defense, linebacker Casey Roberts led the Bears with 14tackles.

“We have to come out and have another good week of practice,”added Burns.

West Lincoln hosts region foe Vicksburg St. Aloysius forhomecoming Friday night. Homecoming activities begin at 6 p.m.followed by the football game at 7:30.
