Lady Hornets meet Tylertown tonight

SUMMIT — The Loyd Star Lady Hornets square off tonight againstthe Tylertown Lady Chiefs in the championship game of the NorthPike Tip-Off Tournament beginning at 7:15.

In Monday’s games, Loyd Star knocked off the North Pike LadyJaguars 63-54 and Tylertown skinned the Wesson Lady Cobras68-40.

North Pike meets Wesson at 4:15 in the loser’s brackettonight.

Loyd Star 63, North Pike 54

The Loyd Star girls led North Pike by two points, 13-11, at theend of the first quarter. The Lady Hornets put together a 20-13 runon the Lady Jags to push their lead to 33-24 at halftime.

Going into the final frame, Loyd Star commanded a 20-point,52-32, advantage over North Pike.

“It was a team effort,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Brittfollowing the win. “I was able to play 11 players. They allcontributed. They all played hard.”

Senior Jordan Britt powered the Lady Hornets with a game-high 26points including 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists. Shara Johnsonnetted 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, made 2 steal and had 2assists. Hailey Ratcliff scored 10 points and pulled down 5rebounds.

“Loyd Star has a good team,” said North Pike girls coach John P.Stephens. “Our girls have to step up and fill their positions. Isaw things we can work on before tonight’s game.

“I was proud with our hustle and intensity,” added Stephens. “Wehad a lot of fundamental mistakes.”

Senior Britta Stephens directed the Lady Jags with 25 points, 3steals and 6 assists. Stephens nailed 4 three-pointers on thenight. Keonna Pittman collected 8 points, and led off thebackboards with 9 rebounds and made 4 steals.

Tylertown 68, Wesson 40

The Wesson girls stayed with Tylertown in the first quarter andtrailed by just one point, 14-13. The Lady Chiefs exploded for a31-3 run in the second quarter to push their lead to 45-16 at thehalf.

“I thought we did well tonight,” said Wesson girls coach JemmyeAnn Helms. “We handled their press well. In the third and fourthquarter, we played with them.”

Christy Watson led Wesson with 10 points. Shanell Adams fired in8 points. Perry K. Furr and Alexis Crosby followed with 6 pointsapiece.

Tylertown was powered by Crystal Thompson and TemperanceRatcliff with 12 points apiece. Stephanie Dillion fired in 11points. Following with 10 points was Octavia Bearden.
