Tylertown girls sack Loyd Star in finals

SUMMIT — The Tylertown Lady Chiefs used their team speed tocapture the North Pike Tip-Off Tournament title Tuesday night witha 66-38 win over the Loyd Star Lady Hornets.
The North Pike Lady Jaguars dumped the Wesson Lady Cobras 48-36in the girls consolation contest.
Tylertown 66, Loyd Star 38
In the title game, Tylertown led Loyd Star 19-10 after the firstquarter. The Lady Chiefs outscored the Lady Hornets 17-8 in thesecond quarter and 14-5 in the third frame to go into the finalstanza up 50-23.
“The girls played well,” said Tylertown coach Cynthia Magee. “Wehave room for improvement.”
Directing the 2-0 Lady Chiefs with 14 points was OctaviaBearden. Netting 11 points was Stephine Dillion.
“We were exhausted from a late game Monday night,” said LoydStar girls coach Lori Britt. “This was a good experience for mygirls to play a good team. We did not have any energy in thisgame.”
The 1-1 Lady Hornets were sparked by Dakota Brooks with 11points. Jordan Britt followed with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 stealand 1 assist. Collecting 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists wasShara Johnson.
North Pike 48, Wesson 36
Directing the 1-1 North Pike girls with 15 points was BrittaStephens. Nickki Brown fired in 10 points.
“We are glad to get a win,” said North Pike girls coach John P.Stephens. “We had too many turnovers. I’m proud of how much mygirls hustled.”
The game was tied 11-all in the first quarter. North Pike wentahead 23-18 at halftime and 38-30 going in to the fourthquarter.
Wesson, coached by Jemmye Ann Helms, was led by Kira Turnbo’s 8points. Perry K. Furr pumped in 7 points. The Lady Cobras are 0-2on the season.
