MIze 48-8 over West Lincoln

MIZE — In the final game of the regular season, the MizeBulldogs put away the West Lincoln Bears 48-8 Thursday night inRegion 4-1A football action.
“Mize is a good as their record indicated,” said West Lincolnhead coach Brooks Burns. “They are by far the best team in ourdivision.”
Mize (11-0, 9-0) is the No. 1 seed out of Region 4 and advancesto next Friday’s opening-round of the 1A football playoffs.
West Lincoln finishes the season 1-10 overall and 1-8 in regionplay.
Scoring the only touchdown for West Lincoln was Darnell Sampsonon a 23-yard run in the fourth quarter in the third quarter.Sampson also ran the two-point conversion.
Sampson 10 carries for 65 yards and a TD for the Bears. KevinKing had 9 carries for 9 yards.
” We had a very good year from the standpoint of injuries,”explained Burns.”As far as the attitude and work ethic, I was verysatisfied with it. Before the season started, I was looking atmaking the playoffs. We competed in every game we played in exceptMize and Mt. Olive. In the rest of the games, we had opportunitiesto win.” We had a legitimate shot at beating Salem No. 3 andStringer.
I am disappointed from the standpoint we didn’t win more game,”continued Burns. “We had times in ball games where things didn’t goour way.
Burns also felt this year’s team was more competitive than theother ones.
“We had an outstanding group of seniors,” said Burns. “Theyreally set an example for the younger guys to follow.”
