WESSON — The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolveskicked off their first home game of the 2004-05 basketball seasonMonday night with an 89-52 victory over the Coahoma LadyTigers.

The win improved the Lady Wolves record to 2-1 on the season.The Lady Tigers, coached by Ira Peterson, fall to 0-3.

“We shot the ball really well,” said Co-Lin women’s head coachGwyn Young following the win. “We played better offense than thelast game. Our defense was pretty good, even though it got raggedat the end.”

The Lady Wolves opened the first half with an 11-0 lead beforethe Lady Tigers managed to score a basket at the 13:55 mark.Slowly, the Lady Wolves kept building on their lead, powered bysophomore forward Travalyn Smith’s 10 first-half points. Smithfinished the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blockedshots.

At halftime, Co-Lin led Coahoma by 19 points, 38-19.

“It was a good win,” added Young. “It was good to play everybodyin the first half.”

The Lady Wolves opened the second half with a 12-4 run to pushtheir lead to 50-23 with 16:10 left in the game. With 10:44remaining, the Lady Wolves led 62-26, then 72-35 with 5:31 left toplay.

Contributing to the Co-Lin win with 12 points and four reboundswas sophomore forward Crystal Brown. Coming off the bench werefreshmen forwards Anna Autman with 11 points and three rebounds,followed by Laquita Ard with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomoreguard Gloria Lewis led with four steals.

The Lady Tigers got 11 points apiece from sophomore guard AprylLampkin and freshman forward LaToya Morris. Collecting 10 pointsand four rebounds was Brittney Tenner.

Co-Lin travels to Holmes Thursday for two games. The women kickoff the doubleheader at 6 p.m. followed by the men.
