Clark scores 33 points; Lawrence bags Prentiss

MONTICELLO — Lawrence County forward David Clark poured in agame-high 33 points and 6 rebounds, to lead the Cougars to a 75-33thrashing of the Prentiss Bulldogs Tuesday night. The LawrenceCounty Lady Cougars placed 3 players in double-figures, as theyposted a 57-52 win over the Prentiss Lady Bulldogs.

Prentiss posted a 48-45 win over Lawrence County in the JV boysgame.

Lawrence County participates in the Brookhaven InvitationalTournament today. The Lady Cougars play McComb at 4 p.m., while theCougars tangle with McComb at 8:30.

Lawrence Co. 57, Prentiss 52

The Lady Cougars (2-3) found themselves down 13-9 in the firstquarter, scoring only 4 baskets. Free Throws would play a majorfactor for LCHS throughout the game. LCHS was 11-of-22 from thecharity stripe in the first half, as they trailed 29-23 at theintermission.

“We missed enough free throws, to where we could have won by 30points,” said LCHS girls head coach Jennie Vance. “We have got toget better at the free-throw line.”

LCHS guards Ronesha Garner and Kenyactha Myers were a combined21-of-39 from the foul line in the game. Garner tossed in agame-high 22 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Myersscored a season-high 19 points and had 3 steals. Jasmine Courtneyhad 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Lady Cougars trailed 40-35 entering the final period.

Prentiss, coached by Wanda Ard, fell apart in the fourthquarter. The Lady Bulldogs managed just 4 baskets, and they wereoutscored 22-12.

Lawrence Co. 75, Prentiss 33

Lawrence County (5-0) dominated from start-to-finish in the42-point blowout. Of the 9 first quarter baskets by the Cougars, 7were inside of the 10-foot range; as they carried a 22-8 lead intothe second frame.

Clark went to work in the second; scoring 14 of his team’s 15points on a variety of banks shots, short-range jumpers and slamdunks. LCHS held a 37-21 advantage at the halftime break.

“We played well tonight,” said Cougar head coach Bobby Lee. “Ourguards looked good.”

In the second quarter and in the third, Clark scored 14consecutive points.

Prentiss, under the direction of Lonnie McLemore, opened thesecond half with a basket. Then Lee’s ballclub took off on a 12-0run, to put the game out of reach.

Lending support for Lawrence County was Craig Tyler with 13points and 15 rebounds. Ray Collins dished out 10 assists. VictorLongino had 3 assists.

In the JV boys game, Lawrence County got 12 points from OliverPeyton and 11 from Albert Brown. Prentiss was led by Joshua Mallorywith 15.
