SUMMIT — Led by guard Ledell Eackles, the Co-Lin Wolvesproduced a solid offensive performance Tuesday in the SouthwestCoca-Cola Classic. Eackles pumped in a game-high 22 points and theWolves whipped Delgado Community College of New Orleans 77-51.

In the women’s game, Co-Lin blasted Delgado 65-44, directed byforward Travalyn Smith’s 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wolves (4-4) evened their record andbounced back from Monday’s opening round loss to Holmes CommunityCollege. Eackles was joined in double figures by Dexter Middletonwith 12 points, Tremaine Enoch with 11 and Derrick Stewart with10.

Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims said he was happy to see hisWolves bounce back. “I was concerned when we played fairly well ondefense against Holmes but shot the ball poorly. We faced thatchallenge and shot the ball well against Delgado,” making 30 of 56field goal attempts.

“Our improved shooting got us into the game mentally and ourbench was in it too,” Sims noted. “We did a good job guarding thefirst half. Anytime a team scores just 19 points, you’re doing agood job.”

The Wolfpack led 45-19 at halftime as Eackles pumped in 15points.

The Dolphins (1-10), coached by Tommy Smith, couldn’t get theiract together. Thirteen of their players put points on thescoreboard but none reached double digits.

Co-Lin held a commanding 48-24 advantage on the backboards, ledby freshman Tremaine Enoch’s 12 rebounds. Guards Dexter Middletonhad 9 rebounds and Brandon Caston 7.

Leading by 6 points, 23-17, with 7:51 left in the first half,Co-Lin went on a 28-2 scoring burst. Derrick Stewart scored 6points in the surge. An alley-oop dunk by Joe Holliday andStewart’s jumper from the key made it 43-19.

Caston, working at point guard, dished out 7 assists. Freshmanforward Lamar Hall missed the game due to a torn pectoral musclesustained last week in the weight room.

The Lady Wolves (4-4) romped to a 32-22halftime lead. Smith was joined in double digits by guard GloriaLewis with 12 points, plus 5 assists and 3 steals. Crystal Brownadded 11 points and Loretta Martin grabbed 10 rebounds.

Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young was happy to win but saw plentyof room for improvement. “I’m glad we won again. We played well inspurts but we got sloppy at the end. We had a lot of unforcedturnovers. We must do a lot better job handling the ball.”

Young watched his team commit 20 turnovers. Delgado (0-12),coached by Adrianna Smith, had a lot more.

The Lady Dolphins got 11 points from Arlesha Dubose.

Co-Lin plays its second home game of the season next Thursday,Dec. 2, hosting Mississippi Delta Community College.
