Services for Robert D. “Teak” Hammons Sr. of Brookhaven are 1p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Brookhaven Funeral Home with burial inMacedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hammons, 82, died Nov. 30, 2004, at G.V. “Sonny” MontgomeryVeterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Brookhaven on Sept.14, 1922, to Sidney Robert Hammons and Minnie Mae Case Hammons.

He was a retired plumber and maintenance worker for NationalCity Stock Yards in Illinois. He was a veteran of the Army, havingserved as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division ScreamingEagles. He was the recipient of two Purple Heart medals. Mr.Hammons was a member of the VFW and Macedonia Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers,Leonard and Bracey Hammons.

Survivors are his wife, Effie Hammons of Brookhaven; hisdaughters, Ginny Bailey of Brookhaven, Sherry Kratz of PhilCampbell, Ala., Nancy Carpenter of Brookhaven, and Patricia LynnRushing of Marrisa, Ill.; his son, Robert D. Hammons Jr. ofVicksburg; his 12 grandchildren, Danny Bailey, Lance Bailey, BernieBailey, Leslie Keller, Ginny Sue Kratz, Peggy Lynn Kratz, B.J.Kratz, Melody Ann Hammons, Ashley Grimes, P.J. Carpenter, RonnieSeering and Jeremiah Seering; one step grandchild, CharlesCarpenter; and six great-grandchildren.
