Holiday festivities roll right into weekend

The parades today and this weekend with celebrations in Wesson,Monticello and New Hebron.

Wesson will hold its annual Christmas parade at 4 p.m.today.

The New Hebron parade will began at 10 a.m. Saturday with theMonticello parade following at 3 p.m.

Monticello’s parade will feature at least 75 entries with thetheme of “A Storybook Christmas,” said Denise Weeks, chairwoman ofthe parade committee. This year’s grand marshals are the childrenof the town’s soldiers deployed with the Headquarters andHeadquarters Company of the 106th Forward Support Battalion, whichis based in Monticello.

The parade in Monticello is the highlight of several holidayactivities Saturday. A sleigh ride with Santa Claus will beavailable at the Lawrence County Civic Center at 11:30 a.m.

Other activities include the Lawrence County Exchange Club ChiliSale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lawrence County High SchoolCafeteria and a raffle by the American Cancer Society for alife-size playhouse built by students and the high schoolvocational-technical center.
