Clinton Arrows sweep Ole Brook

CLINTON — The Clinton Arrows used their home court surroundingsto their advantage and pulled off a doubleheader sweep overBrookhaven in varsity basketball action Monday night.

The Lady Panthers dropped a 54-40 decision to the Lady Arrows,while the Arrows authored a 70-47 thrashing of the Panthers.

Brookhaven travels to Crystal Springs Friday for 3 games,tipping off at 5 p.m.

Clinton 54, Brookhaven 42

The Lady Panthers (2-7) started out slow, trailing 17-4 at theend of the first quarter. Ole Brook closed their deficit to 5points, 19-14 early in the second quarter.

The Lady Arrows (12-1), featuring a pair of post players over6-foot-3, began to pull away. They outscored the Lady Panthers 11-5during the latter stages of the second frame, to take a 30-19 leadat the intermission.

“Their size and their full-court pressure hurt us,” said LadyPanther head coach Billy Holmes. “We did not have enoughsuccess.”

Clinton, coached by Gary Miller, saw his ballclub charge to a41-23 lead entering the fourth period.

Ole Brook freshman center Swayze Black paced the offense with 13points and 9 rebounds. Corena Bates followed with 12 points, 3steals and 2 assists. Portia Dickey grabbed 6 rebounds. KatrinaBanks had 3 steals and dished out 4 assists.

Clinton was led by Myranda Anderson and Katoria Lewis with 14points each.

Clinton 70, Brookhaven 47

Both teams used the opening 8 minutes to find each other, butClinton carried a 9-6 lead into the second quarter.

The Arrows (12-1) are riding a 12-game winning streak, since anopening season loss to Jackson Provine in the Ole Brook Classic,Nov. 6. Coach Bruce Robinson’s squad used a 13-of-17 performancefrom the charity stripe in the second to forge a 30-20 halftimelead.

“We just did not play well,” said Panther head coach RonaldHines.

The Panthers (5-4) could not generate any offense, findingthemselves down 42-28 at the end of the third quarter.

The Arrows got a game-high 22 points from Quincy McQuirter,including an 8-of-9 performance at the free throw line. JustinBurse sacked 15 and Vern Gavin tossed in 10 points.

Ole Brook was led by Michael Thrasher with 12 points, followedby Wade Stewart with 10.
