West Lincoln rally sinks Bogue Chitto

West Lincoln’s Shane Lynch pumped in a field goal with 1.6seconds left to play and gave the host Bears a tough 46-44 Division7-1A win over the Bogue Chitto Bobcats Tuesday night at Jack CaseGymnasium. The game was tied 44-all before Lynch scored the winningbasket.

In varsity girls action, guard Erica Shaw fired in 16 points,grabbed eight rebounds and made four steals to power the Lady Bearsin a 47-38 victory over the Lady Bobcats.

West Lincoln (7-5, 2-0) trailed Bogue Chitto (0-11, 0-2) by ascore of a 23-15 at the half.

“We finally decided to play in the second half,” said WestLincoln boys coach Lane Young. “Shane Lynch made the shot at theend to win the game.”

A 15-12 run by the Bears cut the Bobcats’ lead to 35-30 goinginto the final frame. West Lincoln outscored Bogue Chitto 16-9 topull out the win.

Kevin King led West Lincoln with 16 points. Lynch finished with15 points, three rebounds and three steals. Stephen Jones netted 11points and grabbed seven rebounds. Leading off the backboards withnine rebounds was Jeremy Byrd.

“We rebounded the ball a lot better,” said Bogue Chittofirst-year boys coach Todd Wilson. “West Lincoln did an excellentjob coming back in the third quarter.

“We did good executing on both ends. We executed great in thefirst quarter. All our points came on layups. We have a youthfulteam and we are getting much needed experience.”

Leading Bogue Chitto with 14 points was Daniel Howard. AntwainLyons had nine points.

West Lincoln 47, Bogue Chitto 38

The Lady Bobcats (8-5, 1-1) went on top of the Lady Bears 10-8at the end of the first quarter. At halftime, Bogue Chitto enjoyeda 26-18 lead.

“We played good in the first half,” said Bogue Chitto first-yeargirls coach Christi Terrell. “And in the second half, we did notexecute and we did not crash the boards. Scoring only three pointsin the third is not going to win games.”

The Lady Bears (9-3, 2-0) roared back in the third quarter on an18-3 run to take a 36-29 lead and posted an 11-9 run in the finalframe for the win.

“Bogue Chitto outplayed us in the first half,” said Young. “Wecould not make any shots. We shot the ball better in the secondhalf. But the key was defense and rebounding.”

Adding support to the West Lincoln win with 15 points was LaurenSmith. Monica Price grabbed four rebounds and made four steals.

Pacing Bogue Chitto with 12 points and nine rebounds was TaneshaJohnson. Meleah Brown followed with nine points and five rebounds.Leading with 12 rebounds was Kimberlee Thomas. Guard CandaceBraxton injured her ankle in the final minute of the game.

Junior High Action

The West Lincoln girls nipped Bogue Chitto 33-32. Powering theLady Bears with 13 points was Laina Laird. Kacey Smith followedwith nine points.

Adrienne Hall’s 13 points sparked Bogue Chitto. Finishing withsix points was Kelli Howard.

The Bears knocked off the Bobcats 24-18,directed by Aaron Collins with eight points. Brett Rushing scoredseven.

Seth Avants’ seven points paced the Bobcats.
