Shooting suspect dies of injuries

The suspect in a Dec. 11 shooting died early Friday after beinginjured in an automobile accident while fleeing the incident lastweekend, said Lincoln County Coroner-Medical Examiner ClayMcMorris.

Victor Bruce Smith, 23, was pronounced dead Friday at 4:55 a.m.at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson,McMorris said. Smith had been in critical condition at the Jacksonhospital since being transferred last Saturday.

“He was injured in the wreck after the shooting,” McMorrissaid.

Authorities said Smith was the alleged shooter in an earlymorning Dec. 11 incident near the old Brignall Store. Byron TerrellRobinson, 24, of 2804 Brignall Road, died Monday at UMC after beingshot in the chest area during the altercation.

While fleeing the scene, Smith lost control of his vehicle andhit a tree on New Hope Trail in the New Sight community, SheriffWiley Calcote said. Smith was taken to King’s Daughters MedicalCenter and then transferred to UMC.

McMorris said Smith sustained a brain injury in the accident. Anautopsy was scheduled to be performed tonight to determine thecause of death.

Williams Mortuary is in charge of Smith’s funeral arrangements,which are incomplete.
