Brookhaven Academy’s longtime basketball dominance of District4-AA was clearly apparent Friday night in John R. Gray Gymnasium.The Cougars and Lady Cougars overpowered Centreville Academy,winning the girls game 64-28 and the boys game 102-64.

Brookhaven Academy hosts its Christmas Invitational Tournament,starting Dec. 27 and running through Dec. 30.

The Lady Cougars (13-1, 3-0) were powered byforward Emily Langley’s 12 points. Guard Mallory Logan chipped in11 points and 3 steals. Center Kristian Davidson added 10 pointsand 7 rebounds.

BA head coach Barry Gray said his talented starting quintetplayed just well enough to win but his reserves did exceptionallywell. “I was real proud of my second group. My bench had their bestgame of the year.”

Backup guard Maddie Allen collected 5 rebounds and guard HollyCase accounted for 8 points and 4 steals. The Lady Cougars led30-14 at halftime and 50-18 entering the final frame.

Logan pumped in 3 treys in the second quarter surge. In thethird frame, they raced to a 42-16 lead before Gray cleared hisbench.

“Brookhaven Academy is a good, solid team,” said Centrevillegirls coach Penny Sawyer. “We are starting over with a bunch ofsophomores. We played real well against them the first half.”

The Lady Tigers (5-5, 1-2) got 8 points from center ChelseyMann.

The Cougars (11-1, 4-0) got 22 points, 7rebounds and 4 steals from senior guard Cole Hodges. Junior guardJeremy Winborne chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Junior centerSeth Davis added 16 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Alan Gray had 11points. Forward T-Boy Lynch netted 10 points and 9 rebounds.

“We’ve been playing pretty well lately,”said BA boys coach DaleWatts. “What you worry about right now is how well you play againstteams like Centreville.”

Centreville, the reigning District 4-AA football champion, got agame-high 27 points from guard Brandon Patin.

The Tigers (3-5, 1-2), coached by Jason Horne, trailed 53-25 athalftime and 82-47 starting the final frame. Hodges sacked 3 treysin the third-quarter explosion.

Reserve guard Cameron Achord, a standout wide receiver andsafety for the football Cougars, pushed his team over the 100-pointplateau when he drained a trey from the top of the key with 12seconds left to play.

Junior High Results

In the girls game, Brookhaven beat Centreville 42-29, directedby Drew Holland Tigner’s 27 points, 7 steals and 7 rebounds. HannahWatts added 6 points. Kelli Snider grabbed 5 rebounds, made 5steals and 3 assists. Kristin Kimble had 4 points.

Centreville got 17 points from Amber Addington and 7 from AmyHollinsworth.

In the boys game, Brookhaven defeated Centreville 61-31,directed by Daniel Lofton’s 15 points. Sawyer Wallace added 13points. Ty Smith, Joshua Winborne and Garrett Posey chipped in 6points apiece. Cody Ashley and Jameson Wright had 4 points.

Centreville got 9 points from Lee Turner, 7 from Adam Perry and6 from Cade Lockwood.
