JACKSON — The Wingfield Lady Falcons got scoring from all 12players who dressed out Friday night, as they thrashed the LawrenceCounty Lady Cougars 74-7 in a Division 6-4A basketballencounter.

In the varsity boys game, the Cougars garnered the split, with a62-48 win over the Wingfield Falcons at the Falcons’ Nest.

Wingfield 74, Lawrence Co. 7

Neither team set the scoreboard on fire in the opening 8minutes. The Lady Falcons, coached by Bobby Gates, got a pair ofbaskets from backup guard Andrea Doty to author a 4-0 lead; headinginto the second quarter.

Going from the first into the second, Wingfield (11-5, 3-0)opened the game with a 25-0 run. Dominique Sutton and Jade Chatmancombined for 19-9 points in the scoring spree. Chatman led allscorers with 15 points, while Sutton added 12.

Lady Cougar freshman guard Kasey May, a recent addition to theteam, scored on a medium-range jumper with 3:33 left in the firsthalf, to end the scoreless streak. Lawrence Co. (4-11, 2-1) trailed35-2 at the intermission.

LCHS, coached by Jennie Vance, committed 20 of their 37turnovers in the first half. The Lady Falcons, stepped into thepassing lanes to pick off many Lady Cougars passes (23 steals and15 assists) and converted them into layups.

The Lady Cougars mustered a basket from Jasmine Courtney in thethird, and a trey from Cande’L May in the fourth for their scoringon the night. They trailed 58-2 at one point.

For LCHS, Cortoya Barnes had 11 rebounds. Courtney grabbed 10rebounds. Cande’L May had 2 steals. Leading scorer Ronesha Garner,who came into the game averaging nearly 21 ppg, was held scoreless.She sat out most of the game.

Lawrence Co. 62, Wingfield 48

The Cougars (15-1, 3-0) continued their excellent guard play.Ray Collins, a 5-foot-10 senior floor general, kept finding theLewis and Clark expedition (Justin Lewis and David Clark)throughout the game. Clark pumped in 14 of his game-high 25 points,as LCHS carried a 21-11 lead into the second quarter.

Wingfield (4-11, 1-2), coached by Herman Sanders, could not findan answer for the passing combo of Collins and Justin Middlebrook.The Falcons were behind by 15 points, 34-19 at the intermissionbreak.

Lewis, a 6-foot-4 senior who has committed to sign a USMfootball scholarship Feb. 2, tallied a season-high 14 points, 11rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 2 assists. Lewis’ play in the secondhalf was a key, as LCHS remained unbeaten in division play. TheCougars held a 47-34 advantage, entering the final stanza.

Lending support for head coach Bobby Lee’s Cougars were Clarkwith 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Collins dished out 6 assists,followed by Middlebrook with 4. Collins also had 5 steals. TheCougars outrebounded the Falcons 30-24.

Wingfield got 8 points each from Tim Kendrick and Jamine Mallet.Wingfield committed 23 turnovers, while Lawrence Co. had 18.
