Services for Marguerite Hammons Lord Phillips Gray of Grenadawere 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 at Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenadawith burial in Holcomb Cemetery.

Mrs. Gray, 90, died Jan. 7, 2005, at Hospice Ministries inRidgeland. She was born April 28, 1914, to Att W. Hammons andTilmon Moore Hammons of Holcomb.

She graduated from Holcomb High School in 1933, and attendedGrenada College for two years. She graduated from Woman’s Collegein Hattiesburg in 1937. She taught high school English in Tylertownfor a year and then married Dennis Lord of New York, N.Y. in 1939and lived there for a number of years. Dennis died in 1971 andMarguerite moved to Grenada where she lived with her mother and herbrother, Garnet Hammons.

She married Howard Phillips in 1973 and moved to Brookhavenwhere she lived until his death in 2001. Howard was retired fromASCS.

Marguerite married William M. Gray, a retired Postal employee,and former school mate at Holcomb High School in Dec. 2002, andlived in Grenada.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, FrankHammons, Att W. Hammons Jr., Victor G. Hammons, and John HaroldHammons; one sister, Lucy Hammons Elfert.

Survivors are her husband, William M. Gray; one brother, AlbertS. Hammons of Cleveland; three sisters, Patsy Hammons Arnold, ofBirmingham, June Hammons Knight, of Jackson, and Mary CharlotteNeal, of Jackson; and six stepdaughters; a number ofstepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
