PERKINSTON — Co-Lin sophomore guard Ledell Eackles pumped in 21points, made 4 steals and had 6 assists in powering the Wolves to akey 87-69 South Division win over the Gulf Coast Bulldogs Thursdaynight.

In the women’s game, the Lady Wolves dropped a 57-48 decision tothe Lady Bulldogs.

Co-Lin 87, Gulf Coast 69

The Wolves(15-6, 9-1) shot 56 percent from the floor inthe first half to give the visitors a 13-point, 50-37, lead overGulf Coast.

“We really shot the ball well in the first half,” saidCo-Lin men’s head coach Dennis Sims. “Joe Holliday, DexterMiddleton and Ledell Eackles shot a sizzling 15 of 22 from thefloor in the first half.”

The Wolves played team defense against the Bulldogs inthe second half to preseve the win.

“Defensively, we made it extremely difficult for theBulldogs to run their offense,” added Sims. “It’s not any oneplayer performing defensively, but our whole team. Tonight’s 23assists was a season high.”

Adding support to the Co-Lin win with 18 points, 8rebounds and 6 assists was Dexter Middleton. Holliday netted 17points and had 4 assists. Tremaine Enoch and Arvel Keys grabbed 6rebounds apiece.

Leading Gulf Coast with 13 points each were GarlandStewart and A.J. Magee. J.T. Fields and Courtney Brown finishedwith 12 points apiece. Stewart led off the backboards with 9rebounds.

Gulf Coast 57, Co-Lin 48

The Lady Wolves (13-8, 6-4) struggled in the first halfwith the Lady Bulldogs but still held a 29-25 edge over thehosts.

“We missed 6 free throws that could have made a goodfirst half for us,” said Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young.”Defensively, we were good in the first half with a fewexceptions.”

According to Young, the Lady Wolves struggledoffensively in the second half, only scoring 19 points and missingmany easy opportunities. The score was 38-38 and Co-Lin didn’tscore for 6 minutes and 49 seconds.

“Our effort was fair but we need to have some consistentoutside shooting to go with our inside game. (We were 6 of 30shooting outside the lane) You can win games against good teams onthe road with that kind of shooting.”

Sophomore forward Crystal Brown directed Co-Lin with 13points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Travalyn Smith netted11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 steals.

Gail Weary paced Gulf Coast with 13 points and 3rebounds.

“We have to put this game behind us and get ready forMeridian on Monday,” added Young.
