Bogue Chitto’s boys are on a late-season roll. After a slowstart this season, the Bobcats pulled their first upset of theDivision 7-1A Tournament Monday night, knocking off the NatchezCathedral Green Wave 55-51, directed by the 22-point outburst ofAntwain Lyons.

In the other tournament game played in West Lincoln’s Jack CaseGymnasium last night, Bogue Chitto’s girls crushed Cathedral 53-26,led by Meleah Brown’s 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Bogue Chitto’s boys (5-20) advance to Thursday’s semifinals andplay the winner of the MSD-Enterprise game. Win or lose, theBobcats will play again Friday, either in the consolation orchampionship games.

The Lady ‘Cats (18-8) also advance to Thursday’s semis, awaitingthe MSD-Enterprise winner.

Tonight’s games send St. Aloysius against Pelahatchie at 4 andMSD against Enterprise at 7 in girls action. In the boys bracket,Pelahatchie plays St. Al at 5:30 and Enterprise meets MSD at8:30.

The Bobcats, seeded No. 6, overcame a 39-37deficit to beat the No. 3 seed Green Wave. Daniel Howard scored 12points in the victory.

“We made plays when we had to make them,” said BC first-yearboys coach Todd Wilson. “We must make our free throws to advance inthe tournament.”

At the charity line, the Bobcats made 11 of 24. They trailedCathedral 26-22 at halftime.

“We got an 11-point lead in the second half

but then Bogue Chitto turned up the defense and we couldn’tcontrol the ball,” said Cathedral coach Peter Arnold. “We got acouple of bad calls down the stretch and Bogue Chitto tookadvantage of our mistakes.”

Cathedral (10-15) got 18 points from center Matthew Hall and 17points from guard Matt Goss.

The Lady ‘Cats, seeded No. 2, had no troublewith No. 7 seed Cathedral. They led the Greenies 29-10 athalftime.

“We got ready to play tonight,” said BC girls first-year coachChristi Terrell. “My girls hustled on defense and played welloffensively.”

On the backboards, Kimberlee Thomas led the Lady ‘Cats with 11rebounds. Shasta Porter had 8 rebounds and Dori Hall 7. CandaceBraxton chipped in 7 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

“We dug ourselves a hole we couldn’t get out of,” said Cathedralgirls coach Kathy Granning. “We tried to slow down Bogue Chitto inthe first half but we were missing shots, like we have allyear.

“We don’t have any seniors on my team so I hope next year wewill be more improved and able to compete.”
