Diamond Panthers slug Franklin Co.

Franklin County got a solid pitching performance from seniorpitcher Baron Jones. But defensive errors, fostered by theBulldogs, aided the Ole Brook Panthers to a 12-2 win in 6 innings,Saturday afternoon at Moyer Field.

Brookhaven improves to 4-6, while Franklin County falls to4-5.

Brookhaven travels to Jackson Tuesday; to meet the WingfieldFalcons in a Division 6-4A test at Leavell Woods Park. On Thursday,the Panthers make up a rained out game with Jim Hill, atBattlefield Park, starting at 5 p.m. They varsity game will beplayed first.

Friday night’s game at Hattiesburg has been moved to Saturdaymorning. The JV game starts at 11 a.m.

Franklin County hosts Vicksburg for a JV/Varsity doubleheaderMonday, beginning at 12 noon, as Franklin County observes itsSpring Break week. The Bulldogs are at Amite County in Liberty onTuesday and entertain North Pike Thursday.

Jones tossed 6 innings, allowing 12 runs (7 earned) on 10 hits.He issued a walk and fanned 6 Panther batters.

Franklin County committed 6 fielding errors in the game.

“Baron pitched a good game today,” said Bulldog head coachJohnny Daves. “He did not get any support in the field.”

Ole Brook opened the scoring in their half of the first. Perkinsreached on an error, and later scored on a RBI single by catcherMitch Pappas. The Panthers had a 1-0 lead that was aided by a pairof Bulldog miscues in the inning.

Panther head coach Randy Spring saw his squad increase theiradvantage to 4-1 in the second. Second baseman Elliot Warrenwalked. Third baseman Guy Orr doubled. Centerfielder Darius Perkinsdoubled to score Warren. Jacob Dunn reached on an error that scoredOrr. Perkins would later score on a sacrifice fly by GrantMcDonnieal.

“I’m pleased to get the win but we still have a lot of work todo,” said Spring.

Brookhaven increased its cushion to 8-1 with a 4-run fourth.Warren, Orr, Perkins and Dunn scored off of a pair of Bulldogsmisfortunes. Warren doubled in the inning.

“We committed 6 errors today,” said Daves. “We have to do abetter job fielding.”

Franklin County got on the board in the fifth, but trailed 8-2.With 1 out, shortstop Ryan Ratcliff singled. Dane Hodges tripled toscore Ratcliff. Jones reached on an error that allowed Hodges toscore.

Ole Brook evoked the 10-run rule in the bottom of the sixth.Senior first baseman Grant McDonnieal highlighted the inning with a2-run homer to left, scoring Dunn. Designated hitter GarionCrockett doubled. Pappas reached on an error. Pinch hitter ColeNewell singled to load the bases. Relief pitch Paxton King singledto score Crockett and Pappas to end the game.

The Bulldogs also got a single from catcher Ryan Hall.

Perkins scored 3 runs to lead Ole Brook, while Dunn, Warren andOrr all crossed home plate twice. Pappas had 2 singles. All 9positions in the Panther batting order got at least 1 hit.
