Lady Wolves win pair at East Mississippi CC

SCOOBA — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept a fastpitch softballdoubleheader from the East Mississippi Lady Lions Friday afternoon.Co-Lin posted an 11-0 win in the opener and an 11-2 victory in thefinale.

Co-Lin, coached by Allen Kent, improved to 10-1 on theseason.

The Lady Wolves travel to Itawamba Tuesday for adoubleheader.

Co-Lin 11, East Mississippi 0

Winning pitcher Emily Horne scattered five hits, struck out twobatters and allowed two walks in five innings.

“Emily didn’t really have her best stuff today,” said Kent. “Itwas cold and very windy. She just hung in there and battled and letour defense support her. We scored some runs early and were able torelax and play our game.”

Sophomore centerfielder Jessica Melton powered the Lady Wolveswith two triples and a single for 3 RBI and two runs scored. StacySmith smashed a home run and a single for 2 RBI and two runsscored. Singling twice for 2 RBI was Beth Smith. Megan Bateman hittwo singles. Brandi Bridges singled for 2 RBI. Adding support witha double was Amber Beeson followed by Holly Pyles with asingle.

Co-Lin 11, East Mississippi 2

Freshman Jackie Stowe earned the win on the mound in the secondgame, giving up four hits for one earned run. Stowe struck out fiveand walked none. At the plate, she was 3 for 4 including a double,2 RBI and three runs scored.

“Beth (Smith) came up with a big two-out double to tie it up inthe third inning,” said Kent. “That seemed to get us to going as wefollowed up with five runs in the fourth and put it away in thefifth.”

Melton, who moved to shortstop in the second game, drilled atriple, a double and a single for 3 RBI and three runs scored.Angie Davis singled twice and scored twice. Also singling wereMandy Vinson, Courtney Angel and Bridges.
