FULTON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept a fastpitch softballdoubleheader from the Itawamba Lady Indians Tuesday. Co-Lin won theopener 8-0 and the finale 14-6.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, improved to 12-1 withsweep. Co-Lin returns from the spring break holidays on Wednesday,March 30, with a trip to Pearl River for South Division action.

Co-Lin outhit Itawamba 11-2 in the first game and 17-8 in thesecond game.

Emily Horne (7-1) was the winning pitcher in the opener with twohits allowed. Horne fanned 10 batters and walked none in fiveinnings.

Powering the Wolves at the plate with three hits and 2 RBI wasAngie Davis. Stacy Smith singled twice, scored twice and had 2 RBI.Courtney Angel singled twice and scored twice. Hitting safely wereJessica Melton, Jackie Stowe, Beth Smith and Mandy Vinson.

“Emily really took it to them, at one point, striking out ninebatters in a row,” said Kent. “On a cold, windy and rainy day inNorth Mississippi we stepped up and played some good softball. Wescored some runs early and held on for the shutout.”

Co-Lin 14, Itawamba 6

“We continued to hit it hard in the second game as we scoredeight runs in the first inning,” added Kent. “This gave (Jackie)Stowe a lead she would not relinquish. Stowe allowed eight hits,struck out three and gave up four walks while allowing four earnedruns.”

At the plate, Stowe went 3-for-3, including a home run and adouble for five RBI and three runs scored for the Wolves.

Angel went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and two runs scoredfor Co-Lin. Davis finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a runscored. Megan Bateman had an RBI double, a single and a run scored.Holly Pyles drilled a two-run homer in the first inning.

Vinson singled twice, scored and drove in a run for the Wolves.Melton singled and scored twice. Adding support with a singles anda run scored were Beth Smith and Brandi Bridges.

“We pounded out 28 hits on the day, for 22 runs,” stated Kent.”This pretty much was the story. Our pitching and defense held itsown, even though we had one bad inning in Game 2.

“These were two good road wins for us as Itawamba is usually acontender for the North division title,” added Kent.
