Hattiesburg eludes BHS

HATTIESBURG — The Hattiesburg Tigers scored the game-winningrun in the bottom of the 10th inning to post a 6-5 Saturday winover the Brookhaven Panthers at Smokey-Herrington Park on JimmyPeace Field.
Darius Perkins, the Brookhaven reliever in the 10th, wascredited with the loss. Perkins, with the bases loaded, threw awild pitch that hit the plate and bounced off the glove of catcherMitch Pappas and sailed to the fence. Baserunner Cedric Jonesscored from third base for the win.
Perkins finished with 1 run allowed on 1 hit, 1 strikeout and 2intentionl walks. Paxton King started and worked the first 7 1/3innings with 5 runs allowed on 9 hits, 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.Brandt Hinton took over in the seventh and finished with 2 hitsallowed and 3 strikeouts.
Jermaine Jackson was the winner in relief. Jackson took over inhe eighth inning and finished with 3 hits allowed and 5 strikeouts.Starter Chase Herrin worked five innings with 4 runs allowed on 5hits, 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Reggie Lea worked the next 2 inningsand allowed 1 hit.
“The kids battled hard,” said Brookhaven head baseball coachRandy Spring.
Brookhaven (4-7) cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the thirdon a 3-run home run by Hinton. A run in the fifth by the Pantherstied the game at 4-4. Hattiesburg and Brookhaven both scored 1 runin the eighth inning to remain tied at 5-all.
Garion Crockett and Perkins belted two hits apiece for OleBrook. Jacob Dunn and Hinton ripped a double apiece. Singling werePappas and Zach Watson.
Hattiesburg got 3 singles from Jackson. Brant LeFan and Herringcollected 2 singles apiece. Singling were Lea, Josh Chatman, KyleMoore and Josh Wiley.
Junior varsity
Brookhaven clipped Hattiesburg 4-1.
Brookhaven hosts division foe McComb Tuesday for a doubleheader.The JV game begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at6:30.
