Cougars bounce Trinity

The host Brookhaven Academy Cougars whipped the Natchez TrinityEpiscopal Saints 13-3 Thursday night in baseball action.
The Cougars improved to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in divisionplay. The Saints fell to 3-10 and 0-5.
BA jumped on Trinity 3-0 in the first inning and went up 5-0after two. In the fifth inning, the Cougars outscored the Saints7-3 for the win under the 10-run rule.
“I thought we were a little sluggish, that could be from springbreak,” said BA head baseball coach Stephen Cooksey. “However, wewere able to put things together to win the game. Our team effortwas good.”
Powering BA with a triple apiece were Paul Davis and ColeHodges. Ryan Vanderslice singled twice. Corey Dickerson doubled.Seth Davis and Jeremy Winborne singled.
Dickerson (2-0) posted the win with eight strikeouts and threewalks. Kolby Godfrey fanned four and walked five in the loss.
“We are a young team,” said Trinity coach Matt Mason. “We havesix freshman, one senior and one junior. And we need to quit makingfreshman mistakes. We knew this year would be a rebuilding year. Wemust practice more to get better.”
The Saints got a single from Clint Eason, Stevan Ridley andWells Middleton.
Junior varsity
Trinity nipped BA 1-0.
BA travels to Silliman Institute Tuesday.
