TERRY — One of the keys to Brookhaven’s run to the Class 4Astate baseball championship last season, was a huge win over Terryat Moyer Field. On Tuesday night in southern Hinds County, OleBrook won its third game over Terry in the past 2 years.

Panther junior right-hander Brandt Hinton tossed a 5-hitter in a3-0 Division 6-4A shutout of the Bulldogs.

Brookhaven improves to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the division,while Terry falls to 15-4 and 5-2. Terry had defeated Brookhaven8-3 March 4 on Moyer Field.

Ole Brook hosts Division 6-4A foe Jim Hill Friday for aJV/Varsity doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m.

“It feels good to get an actual win, instead of a moralvictory,” said Panther head coach Randy Spring, who was referringto 3 straight close setbacks to Hattiesburg, Lawrence County andPetal. Those losses came by a total of 4 runs.

It only took 1 inning to decide this game, but it would be acostly one for the homestanding Bulldogs. Terry committed 5 errorson the night, with 2 coming in the second inning; as Brookhavenposted all the runs it would need.

Panther catcher Cole Newell reached on an error. Hinton reachedon a 3-base error that allowed Newell to score. Leftfielder PaxtonKing walked. Second baseman Elliot Warren reached first, when apitch from Terry starter Adam Cook hit him. Rightfielder Jacob Dunnreached on a fielder’s choice that scored Hinton. CenterfielderDarius Perkins singled to score King for a 3-0 Brookhaven lead.

“We got some runs to go along with the hits,” said Spring.”Brandt did a good job locating his pitches. Our defense playedwell tonight.”

Hinton (4-2) went the distance (7 innings), allowing no runs on5 hits. He issued a walk, while fanning 7 Terry batters.

Cook (5-2) suffered the loss for Bulldog head coach JerryGibson. Cook pitched a 4-hitter, allowing 3 runs (2 earned), with a4 walks, 6 strikeouts and 1 hit batter.

Perkins singled and doubled to lead the Panthers. Singles camefrom Garion Crockett and Zach Watson.

Terry’s Jess Shelby doubled. Steven Stringer, Dustin Winkler,Blake Pennock, and Antwon Dixon singled.
