Damie ‘Lucy’ Hester
Services for Damie “Lucy” Hester, of Natchez, are 2 p.m.Wednesday, April 6 at Brookhaven Funeral Home with burial in RoxieCemetery.
Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hester, 58, died April 3, 2005, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. She was born in Tylertown on Sept. 9,1946, to Lemmie H. Lambert and Beatrice Kyzar Lambert.
She was an independent home caregiver. She was a member of OakHearst Baptist Church in Clarksdale.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gwin L.Hester; her daughter, Gwendolyn Hester Reese; her brother, PaulDenver Lambert; and her sisters, Carolyn Thornhill and PearlJohnson.
Survivors are her granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Reese, of Memphis;her son-in-law, William Reese, of Memphis; her sisters, FrancesAinsworth, of Natchez, JoAnn Gilmore, of Jackson, Grace L. Robertsand Amy Kay Caraway, both of Natchez, Macy Caraway, of Kennett,Mo., and Denise Farmer, of Robinsonville; and her brother, JasperLambert, of Camp Spring, Md.
Dr. Julian T. Janes Jr.
Services for Dr. Julian T. Janes Jr., of McComb, were 10 a.m.today, April 5 at First Baptist Church in McComb. Burial withmilitary honors was in Hollywood Cemetery. Hartman Funeral Home ofMcComb was in charge of arrangements. Dr. David Millican, the Rev.Bob Lynch and the Rev. Winfred “Chubby” Lowery officiatedservices.
Dr. Janes, 85, died April 1, 2005, in Nashville from injuriessustained in a car crash in Shelbyville. He was born in Birmingham,Ala., on Aug. 20, 1919, to Julian T. Janes Sr. and Cenora Janes. Hewas reared in Hawkinsville, Ga.
A long-time leader in civic, charitable and church endeavors, heis best remembered for his commitment to medicine and sharing thatcommitment with others in the healthcare community.
Dr. Janes was a physician who served the Pike County area fornearly 55 years in private family practice, emergency room practiceand with Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
He attended the University of Georgia and graduated from theLouisiana State University Medical School in 1950. A member ofnumerous medical associations, Dr. Janes served as secretary ofSouthwest Mississippi Regional Medical Association for over 40years, was chief of staff of Southwest Mississippi Regional MedicalCenter and served on the Mississippi Foundation for Medical CarePhysician Review. He lectured, advised and trained other healthcareproviders in a number of areas for many organizations, includingthe Southwest Mississippi Community College Nursing School.
He attended Johnston Station Baptist Church and had been anactive member of First Baptist Church, McComb, where he was adeacon, a leader with the Young People’s Class as well as theBaptist Training Union. The 1996 recipient of the McComb ExchangeClub’s Book of Golden Deeds Award, Dr. Janes was the 1969 AzaleaBall King. He had been active with the McComb Noon Lions Club.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the 42X CadetClass. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilotinstructor. He was called back into the Air Force during the KoreanWar where he served his medical residency.
When Dr. Janes was not practicing medicine, he loved waterskiing, scuba diving and watching “all my kids,” as he referred toall those children he delivered over the years. He kept track ofhis “kids” and their activities just as if they were his own.
In his first foray into the horse world, he owned and showedTennessee Walking horses. At his Hollywood Acres stable in Summit,his love become racking horses. Here, he continued his involvementwith two world class champions. In recent years, he had returned tohis first love, the Tennessee Walkers.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his first wife,Irma Lee Janes.
Survivors are his wife, Sue Johnson Janes, of Dixie Springs; hissons, Julian T. Janes III, and his wife, Ann, of Bedford, Texas,and Denny Johnson and his wife, Brandy, of Summit; his daughters,Judy Shrock and her husband, Dr. Fletcher Shrock, of Durant, JanDykes and her husband, Jim, of McComb, Jeri Shults and her husbandTom, of Roswell, Ga., and Dana Johnson Leeper, of Byram; hisbrother, Clarence Janes and his wife, Betty, of Bessemer, Ala.; hisgrandchildren, Sara, Jessica and Laura Shrock, Courtney and JeffJanes, Jennifer Dykes Heard and her husband, Clinton, Les Dykes,Evan and Erica Shults, Andrew and Katie Brumfield, and Jordan andReagan Leeper; and his great-grandson, Cole Heard.
Pallbearers were Dale Watts, Charles Ray, Houston Watts, OliverYoung, Jerry Reid, Horace Holmes, Norman Price, Wendell Holmes, TomMayer and Van Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers were area physicians, past and presentemployees of Hollywood Acres, including Mike Watts, Greg McCaskelland Remmy Forbes, and special friends, Chester Gill, Wallace Popeand Ric Smith.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, St.Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
Curtis Robinson
Services for Curtis Robinson, of Gary, Ind., formerly ofBrookhaven, were held at St. Luke A.M.E. Church in East Chicago onApril 2. Hinton and Williams Funeral Home in East Chicago was incharge of arrangements.
Mr. Robinson, 79, died March 27, 2005, in Gary, Ind. He was bornin Brookhaven on May 15, 1925, to Lidge Robinson and CallieRobinson.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Ida Mae Robinson, of Gary; fivedaughters, Sherry Robinson, of Chicago, Authurine Jefferson, ofGary, Linda Watson, of Decatur, Ga., Jeannine Jones and herhusband, Reginald, of Decatur, and Cheryl Jerzak and her husband,Chris, of Jacksonville, Fla.; her sons, Jerry Robinson, of ElkGrove Village, Ill., Kerry Robinson, of Chicago, and CraigJefferson and his wife, Mamie, of East Chicago; his sister, DorothyLewis and her husband Silas, of Monticello; her brothers, EligeRobinson Jr. and his wife, Anna Ree, Will Robinson and his wife,Elaine, and Sheridell Robinson and his wife, Theola, all ofBrookhaven, and Johnny Robinson and his wife, Madeline, ofGreenville; his aunt, Willie Ann Diggs, of Brookhaven; 16grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sevengreat-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives andfriends.
Samuel Murray ‘Mearl’ Wilkinson
Services for Samuel Murray “Mearl” Wilkinson, of Vidalia, La.,are 2 p.m. today, April 5 at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia withburial in Whittington Memorial Cemetery in Liberty. The Rev. GlenHarrigill and the Rev. Jack Whittington will officiate.
Mr. Wilkinson, 53, died April 2, 2005, at Natchez RegionalMedical Center. He was born in Natchez on Oct. 30, 1951.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Linous J. WilkinsonSr., Mearl Allen Wilkinson and Eileen Janice Randall; threesisters, Edna Lee Wilkinson, Betty Ilene Wilkinson and Joyce Ann”Bootsie” Johnson; two brothers-in-law, George Johnson and JackieBurke; and a nephew, Charlie Freeman.
Survivors are his wife of 21 years, Tammie Fauver Wilkinson; hisson, Samuel Murray “Sam” Wilkinson Jr. and his wife, Samantha, ofNatchez, and Joseph Murray “Joey” Wilkinson, of Pine Bluff, Ark.;his daughters, Hannah Faith Davis, and her husband, Joe, ofBrookhaven, Amanda Janice Wilkinson, of Pine Bluff, Ark., andKatrinka Ann Wilkinson, of Vidalia; his sisters, Ginger AnnetteRollinson, and her husband, Scottie, of Liberty, Debra Ann Burke,of Brandon, and Roxanne DeLaSalle, of Natchez; his eightgrandchildren, Megan Grace Roberts, Samantha Lee Donohue, ClintonKyle Blackwell, Kerry Nicole Wilkinson, Mariah Carey Wilkinson,Alex Wilkinson, Joey Madison Davis and Owen Matthew Davis.
