Franklin Co. dumps P. Gibson, Hazlehurst

BUDE – Before storms and severe weather ravaged the FranklinCounty ballpark Wednesday afternoon, the Bulldogs got three gamesoff before rain made the legendary Swamp Ballpark a swamp withnearly three inches of rain covering the outfield.
The Bulldogs hope to resume play Saturday afternoon at 1 againstBrookhaven. Depending on field conditions that game could berescheduled.
Franklin County 9, Port Gibson 0
In a late Monday evening contest, the Bulldogs virtually knockedvisiting Port Gibson (3-8, 2-4) out of the race for the Region 7-3Achampionship with a strong pitching performance from junior DannGriffin.Griffin, from Meadville, struck 11 batters out and allowedthree hits in seven innings thrown.
Griffin got run support from sophomores Dane Hodges, CableMcMinn, and Justin Steele with an RBI each. Senior Jasper O’Quinnadded two RBI’s off a single and a double. Hodges tripled andsingled, while McMinn singled twice.
Freshmen second baseman Ryne Tutor enjoyed a 3-for-3 performancewith two singles and a double. He collected two RBI’s.
Collecting a double apiece was senior outfielder James King,junior catcher Ryan Hall, and Steele.
Franklin County 8, Hazlehurst 0
In the first game of a doubleheader with the Indians, Franklinscored three runs apiece in the second and third innings tooverwhelm the Indians. The Bulldogs hot bats gave sophomore RyanRatcliff time to shut the Indians down on the mound with fast ballsand curves. Ratcliff had six strikeouts.
At the plate, King led all batters with a double and a singlefor an RBI. Hall plated two singles for two RBI’s.
Franklin County 8, Hazlehurst 2
Game Two of the Hazlehurst-Franklin County series allowed theBulldogs to clinch a share of the Region 7-3A runner’s up spot.Franklin (10-7, 6-1) is still alive in the district championshiprace, trailing North Pike (12-3, 6-0) by one game.
Against Hazlehurst, King stretched his RBI hit streak to sevengames with two singles for an RBI. O’Quinn and senior Baron Jonesalso plated a pair of extra base hits for an RBI each.
On the mound, Hall collected the win with five strikeouts.
