Melton, Horne selected DIv. II Players of the Week

WESSON — Two Copiah-Lincoln Community College fast-pitchsoftball players have been named National Junior College AthleticAssociation Division II Player of the Week and Pitcher of theWeek.

Sophomore Jessica Melton of Bogue Chitto was named Division IIPlayer of the Week. Melton, a 5-9 infielder from Copiah-LincolnCommunity College, is the NJCAA Division II Softball Player of theWeek. In four games Melton was 9-for-11 with 11 runs scored, 3doubles, 1 triple, 10 RBI, 6 walks and 9 stolen bases.Copiah-Lincoln was 4-0 on the week with sweeps of conferenceopponents Pearl River Community College (10-2, 15-4) and SouthwestMississippi Community College (10-2, 10-2).

In the Pearl River doubleheader, Melton was 3-for-4 with 6 runsscored, 1 double, 4 RBI, 6 walks and 6 stolen bases. She followedthat with a 6-for-7, 5 run, 2 double, 1 triple, 1 RBI, 2 stolenbase performance in the twinbill against Southwest Mississippi.

Freshman pitcher Emily Horne of Houston, Texas, 5-5, is theNJCAA Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week. Horne, the team’sonly pitcher due to a teammates injury, was 4-0 on the week withwins over Pearl River Community College (10-2, 15-4) and SouthwestMississippi Community College (10-2,10-2). On the week she had 17strikeouts and gave up 4 walks, 18 hits and 4 earned runs in 22innings pitched.
