Co-Lin splits with Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON — Two home runs by Josh Logan and single blasts JodyBritt and Patrick Williams powered the Co-Lin Wolves to a 14-7Saturday victory over the Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs inSouth Division baseball action. Gulf Coast recovered to edge Co-Lin5-4 in the nightcap.

Co-Lin (22-20, 3-9). resumes play Tuesday, hosting Southwest fora South twinbill on Sullivan Field, starting at 4 p.m. Gulf Coast(26-18, 7-7) evened its South Division record with the split.

“We played well today,” said Co-Lin coach Keith Case. “We putourselves in a position to win both games and only made one error.Both of Gulf Coast’s pitchers are pretty darn good.”

Co-Lin 14, Gulf Coast 7

Derek Thompson pitched the win, going 5.1 innings. He allowed 10hits, 7 runs, walked 3 and fanned 6.

Logan had a big game for the Wolves. He finished with 4RBIs.

Britt also had 4 RBIs. Ben Sandifer doubled twice.

“As a team we picked up the hits,” said Case. “We did a good jobputting the ball in play.”

Catcher T.J. Hitt collected 3 hits for the Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast 5, Co-Lin 4

Sophomore right-hander Lance Deville started on the mound forCo-Lin and absorbed his first loss. Deville (4-1), recovering froma separated left shoulder, struck out 4 batters, walked 2 andallowed 5 runs on 10 hits.

Miles Clark, a Southeastern Louisiana University signee, wentthe distance for Gulf Coast. He struck out 3 batters, walked 1 andallowed 4 runs, 2 of them earned, on 9 hits.

Collecting singles for the Wolves were Logan, MatthewSchexnayder, Garrett Jones and Scotty Smith.

Co-Lin plated 4 runs in the third. Sandifer led off with asingle. Joseph Langham laid down a bunt and reached on an error.Logan singled to load the bases. Xavier Qualls hit an RBI grounder.Williams slugged a 2-run double. Jones singled home Williams for a4-1 lead.

Gulf Coast rallied for 3 runs in the fourth inning. Leon Farmerled off with a double. Harry Ridgedell reached on a single. GunterO’Neal hit an RBI double. Shortstop Chad Green slapped a 2-RBIsingle.
