WESSON — The Co-Lady Wolves swept a South Division fastpitchsoftball doubleheader from the Pearl River Wildcats. Co-Lin won theopener 4-2 and 8-0 in the finale.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, are ranked No. 7 in thenation. Co-Lin’s record improved to 21-2 with the wins.

Co-Lin freshman pitcher Emily Horne directed the win , strikingout 10 batters, scattering 8 hits and issued no walks and oneearned run.

The game was scoreless until third. Beth Smith reach base on anerror. Holly Pyles sacrificed her to second. Jessica Melton andMegan Bateman singled back-to-back to load the bases. Designatedhitter Stacy Smith drilled a 2-run single for a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Mandy Vinson was hit by a pitch and scored onPyles two-out triple off the left field fence. Melton drew a baseon balls and got into an intentional rundown to allow Pyles toscore for Co-Lin’s fourth run.

“The game could have gone either way,” said Kent. “Pearl Riverswung the bats well. We got the two-rout hits and they didn’t.Stacy and Holly both came up with clutch two-out hits.”

In the second game, Horne pitched a one-hit shutout. She struckout one batter and had no walks in the 6-inning mercy -rule game.Horne allowed two base runners on a single and an error.

Melton opened the bottom of the first with a walks. Following asacrifice but by Megan Bateman and a fly-out, Stacy Smith delivereda two-out single to score Melton. Amber Beeson singled and AngieDavis reached on an error to load the bases. Brandi Bridgesdelivered a two-run single to left field for a 3-0 lead.

Pyles walked and Melton singled in the second. Pyles scored on asacrifice fly by Jackie Stowe.

In the fourth, Bateman ripped a one-out single then sole second.Stowe followed with a RBI double down the left-field line. StacySmith continued to swing her bat, doubling off the left field fenceto score Stowe. Angie Davis doubled to center to plate Smith for a7-0 lead.

Stacey Smith led off the sixth inning with a towering walk-off,two-run home run over the center field fence.

The win improved the Lady Wolves to 9-1 in division play withGulf Coast sitting at 7-1.

Pearl River came in riding a four-game winning streak..

“We played pretty good defense all day, only having twomistakes,” said Kent. “Emily had another great day, just shuttingdown a good-hitting Pearl River squad. Stacey had another reallybig day at the plate, picking up some crucial two-out RBIS.”
